I have had my 130 Tdi sport for 2.5 years now and the alloys are starting to get a bit tatty. The paint, especially on the front wheels is starting to bubble up and these sections are turning black. It's spreading onto the side and front of the spokes.
I visited the local paint shop and was quoted £90 a wheel to have the whole thing redone, £40 for the faces. But most of the corrosion is on the inside of the wheel.
It would seem that a whole new set of alloys would be cheaper, but which ones ?
I would rather they stay 16in as new tyres would be a bit pricy ATM. I quite like the RS4 and S3 ones and the nuvolar, but have only seen the RS4's in 16in

I might stretch to 17in if I can get some semi decent tyres with them at a good price:biglaugh:
So what have you guys got on yours and do you have pictures ???

I got the wheels off today to swap them around to get some more wear out of the current set of tyres. This is what they looked like.
The best one

And the worst one

And like all these things I discovered that the offside CV boot had split and had grease and brake dust caking the inside of the wheel :aargh4:
I am thinking of the R8 or R32 style ones now in 17in.

Those look quite nice, but I really don't want to go above 17in for tyre cost and ride.
I am starting to like the look of these

Although they might be a bugger to clean :approve: but they should look good on my black Passat. Not sure if the above pic is 17 or 18in though. I can get them from http://www.wheel-base.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=New-R32-Style# with Toyo tyres for £535 although I am unfamiliar with those tyres. Does anyone know what the offset of the Road america alloys is ? I have heard 32mm and 37mm ?

standard 16" sport alloys are cheap enough now and not bad looking

You could always get your wheels repainted

That is always an option, but its £90-£100 per wheel, and one of my friends who works in a paint shop sucked his teeth and said "cheaper to by new ones", and "you will have trouble finding some where that will do the whole wheel" when he saw them:eek:
If I could get a couple of the tdi sport (road america) ones that would be ideal. However I am going to need to change the tyres in a couple of months so If I could get a good deal with some 17in and tyres I might go for that.
The cheapest option will probably win :biglaugh:

Lol just looked at my own pics and spotted "ET37" on the back of the wheel. So I am looking for 5x112 ET37 ?

I really like these 17" Audi alloys on my Passat, the handling is superb and the tyre life and price (27,000miles, £150 a pair all in) seem good value for money.http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/[IMG]http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g14/caldirun/17s.jpghttp://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g14/caldirun/17s.jpg

theres loads of places around that refurbish wheels from £40 just do a google search.
failing that why not get the sand blasted and have a go at painting them yourself.

I've also got the RS4 in 18's quite recently.
Have to admit they look great. Sold my old 16's for £100, so in total my new 18's cost me £380 - budget tyres included.
I'd have to warn you off the budget tyres, especially on such a low profile - they are 40 profile for 18's. Mine are sunew's - terrible.
Proper branded quality tyres are about £150 each though - scary. :aargh4:
You should be able to get 17's for a decent price on premium tyres still.

I got these 18" Golf R32 wheels for mine recently. The ride is fine and tyres not too bad. You can get them in silver or black, the red rim looks really nice.

Are those the same as these http://www.wheel-base.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=NewR32V3
I like the look of these to
http://www.wheel-base.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=New-RS4-Style.
I have also found this place which is 40min drive from me

I am going to give them a call and see what they say about my alloys. The car obliging as ever has developed a loud rattling/rumbling noise from under the bonnet that goes when you put some revs on the engine :aargh4: its not audible in the car but the gate gard at work today stopped me and said "there's a nasty rattling noise coming from your car" and I pass him everyday. It never rains it poors !!
