hi! i have a 2001 passat 130 my "check brake pads" warning light has come on but when i checked my pads they were all in great nick, not worn at all. now my "check oil level" warning light has come on but when i checked oil level it was normal! can anyone help please and can the warning lights be reset? cheers Zig.

The brake pad sensors trip the warning when the sensor gets destroyed by being worn through, and the connection through the two wire to it are severed. If the wires break, or the connector is corroded, it can give a false warning.

The oil level sensor is in the sump and the car uses the bonnet catch microswitch to corroborate that it has been checked. These microswitches can fail. I think you would need to see if the alarm goes off when you open the bonnet to test it. You can sit in the car, disable the interior sensors with the switch on the centre pillar below the driver's seatbelt and then arm the alarm, wait a few minutes, pull the bonnet release and get someone to open the bonnet.
