Hi all,
First post here, just recently bought a B5.5 130 TDI estate (2002)...will introduce myself soon, but first....

I have a leak in the engine bay. Took the engine cover off and it was all covered with oil around the are of the EGR unit. There is wet oil as well as dried caked on stuff suggesting its been going ona while.

Also when the engine is hot its making a noise (kinda like a duck quaking) from the top of the EGR unit, just under the silver domed thing (assume its a vacuum unit?) When idling there is air pulsing out from the holes on either side, and sometimes a spray of oil.

Being my first passat, not sure if this is normal, or how it should function.

any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks :1zhelp:

Sounds like the egr actuator may have a split and be letting air in. They all leak some oil, that's normal as mileage builds up. When the engine is cold and off, pull the vacuum pipe off the egr and plug it with something (air tight). That should leave the egr valve close. Drive it like that. If that cuts out some of the oil leak and your actuator stops quacking, you know that it might be worth replacing it all.

About £127 from GSF, easy to fit and stops all the mess (and the quacking)
