Hi People.

My frst post and sadly one which I had not expected to make. Its also a bit of a long story but please bear wth me!

Just over a week-2weeks ago I bought a 2007 A4 S LINE SPECIAL EDITION FSI T QUATTRO. It was in beautiful condition not a mark on it.

My nightmare started when I pulled into work I went to park it and overshot the car sparking space and stalled the car, when I went to restart it the key simply wet round and round in the ignition barrel offering no resistance! the car has 6monhs of warranty left. Audi road side assistance came and said that the ignition barrel had gone. It was sent to local audi who rung me the next day and delivered the following devastatin blow!

He said that it would not be covered under warranty as it appeared that it had been forced! and so would cost nearly £500 to replace as it involved replacing the barrel and some lock in the column (sorry im not very car technially minded).
I disupted the fact that Id only had the car a week and thee was no way that it had beenf orced! I asked if it was something that could just instantly go or whether it could happen over time. The audi mechanic said that he had had to ask ther head engineer who'ds aid that he had never seen it before! He advidsed me to speak to customer services to see if anything could be done.

I rang audi customer services who have set up a case. My stance is that I am really not happy about having to fork out nearly £500 to replace this part as in myopinion it's a faulty part! If they were to look at the condition of the car surely they'd see that the problem does not match the car which is so well looked after and maintained!
Also I am currently driving a replacement car supplied by audi whic had the part been covered under warranty I would have been given free of charge, however it isnt so I dont want to be charged for it while the look into this!

Please please may I have your advice on the matter
yours desperatly

It appears I am getting exactly the same reply!! audi really aren't budging on this 1. They make all the right noises but claim their hands are tied, they won't do any gesture of good will in terms of money off or even a car to use while it is been done (which is going to be around 2-3 weeks!) Audi customer services seems to be 0!

Any last pieces of advice that may help me!?

2 weeks of ownership, take car back and quote unfit for purpose and demand your cash back
Get advice from citizens advice and give the seller a scare.
They may not fancy that option or swallowing such a large bill, but may be prepared to repair as per BEZ suggestion above.
Worth a try perhaps
Good luck old son, keep fighting

Sorry to hear about your problem but I agree with the dealer. The only way the barrel can come adrift if it has been removed and refitted incorrectly (possible lock set replacement) so this would be faulty workmanship and not a manufacturing defect so you need to contact the seller and claim from them.
7511 WARNING
The steering lock must not be operated without the lock cylinder, otherwise it would lock up completely. A locked-up steering lock must be renewed.

The barrel is fixed in place via a self locking lever which require compressing to release the barrel from the housing via 1mm pin, if the column is turned without the barrel the ignition lock engages and you cant release it so a new housing is required.

When fitting the barrel it is possible to fit it incorrectly so the self locking does not fully engage and this is most likely but again operator error can't be ruled out as it sounds like you were in a bit of a tiss

Warranty guide line are clear and this would not be covered.
I suspect the additional cost incurred because the steering column will be locked up requiring a new ignition housing plus the labour to smash it off as they are held with tamper proof bolts.

I understand your issue but the dealer will only be paid for the repair if a valid warranty claim can be submitted so if they sold the vehicle to you then your 3 month sales warranty may cover it but I suspect you did not buy from this dealer and therefore you only have the manufacturers warranty or the sellers goodwill.
Don't shoot the dealer as they are just doing there job.

Bez suggestion is incorrect.B7 A4 support immo 3a and you need to match the barrel to vin number or you would require a full lock set also including dash, engine ecu and airbag as the vin cant be regenerated on this type and this is often only realised after a vehicle theft when a new lock set is fitted and sent to the dealer to code.
The fazzet server can't recode another lock set with out a complete new electronic identity.
The original barrel can be replaced but they take a while to come

I suspect BEZ fitted the second hand barrel and swapped the blade over to match the profile whilst keeping the original transponder in the flip key housing which would work but tour other locks wouldn't work to key profile. The transponder is not in the key but in the short upper section of the key inside the remote housing.

The dealer would not carry out that type of modification for security reasons

Hope that answers all your questions and educates you of the reasons why and what

Beast Regards
