Hi there.
Below freezing here this morning.
Got into my car, turned the key, and the warning light (and bell chiming 3 times) for the coolant came on.
Nothing else did. The needles for the speedo and revs stayed firmly locked down at zero. No temp guage, no date/time, nothing.
Car started no worse than expected given the temperature.
I drove the mile to work (I usually walk, honest! :) but today I have to drive to Manchester and Sheffield, and then to London tomorrow), windscreen wipers, rear window defroster etc worked fine. Stereo works fine. Still no lights on the dashboard apart from the coolant light. :1zhelp:
I will check and top up the coolant as necessary, but would like to fix the dashboard/instrument panel problem before I drive to manchester this afternoon. Of course! :D
Can anyone give me any pointers as to what I need to do (and I cross my fingers that it's not going to be expensive or time consuming!). If I do need to take it to a garage, can anyone recommend a reliable, non-rip-off, one near the Oxford Science Park?
My car is a 2000 Audi A3 1.9 Tdi.
PS, just checked the car an hour later, and this time, no coolant warning (just the usual OK), and the instrument panel intermittently lights up, with an audible click every time the needles on the speedo, rev counter and fuel guage jump up. This suggests to me that it's a a loose connection somewhere, that maybe gets worse (contracts?) in the cold?
What should I do?
TIA
Tessa
