I wondered what peoples opinion was about turning the car on and letting it warm up on its own.

I was always told that using a lot of deicer can perish your rubber seals and wipers. Also, slowly warming the engine when cold is beneficial as trying to drive the car straight away can lead to increased engine wear as oil is not warm and parts are not up to temperature.

Someone else recently suggested that it is worse to leave the engine running on idle as the oil is not getting moving around the engine?

Its nice to get into a warm car, but obviously not if its been nicked.

Im confused:confused:

I turn it on, reverse out of the garage and drive away. I do this whether it's dead hot or freezing.

I drive conservativly until the engines warm AND the oil has had enough time to fully circulate.

I also warm down my car before putting it away.

Leaving a car to idle doesn't generate enough oil pressure to pump it everywhere and hence it's running without adequate lubrication.

Plus.... the engine will take ages to warm up on idle from cold, it will be quicker to jump in and get driving.

There was something in the A4 B6 manual stating you should not let it idle when first cold, you should just drive off.
