Hi, I'm having some problems with a Mk2 Golf 1.8GL 4+E (1991).
The main problem I have is the first 10-15 mins after starting her up, the idle sits around the 3000rpm mark. This seems to be getting worse over the past week or two. It does eventually go down to around 900-1000rpm, but pulling off at 3000rpm for 10mins every day is obviously not doing the clutch and good.
A few other problems I have is a rattling / knocking noise when pulling off. I know the exhaust needs positioning properly again, as its sitting to the right and tapping the rear bumper, but the main noise is coming from somewhere up front. This also seems to be getting worse, and I can't seem to find where it's coming from, as it doesn't seem to do it when idle.
The other is a strong smell of fuel. Twice now it's cut out on me from sitting idle (whilst waiting in McDonalds Drive Through), and other times it tries to cut out, and I really have to give it a boot to stop it (most of the time severely bogging down).
Any replies would be greatly appreciated
Thanks for you time,
Craig.
