Anything that meets the 506.01 approval. It will say so in the specifications on the bottle. It's not cheap stuff.

Opie oils sell this (http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-986-fuchs-titan-supersyn-ll-plus-sae-0w-30-fully-synthetic-oil-for-vw-and-pd-diesel-engines.aspx).

You'll need 2 cans of the stuff, my T5 takes about 6 litres of oil.

It's worth checking the price of the oil at your TPS. They quite often have offers on there oils and it is very competitively priced.

As well as 506.01 you can also use 507.00 http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-754-vw-50700-oil.aspx

Can you finally clear up a long standing question Oilman. Jeff doesn't say what year his van is, but is 507-00 ok for early T5 (five cylinder engined) vans without a DPF? I only ask this because VW warn against this using anything but 506-01 and have gone as far as saying not to use 507-00 in non-DPF vans.

I know they only recommend the 506.01 for some of the toureg diesels.

Which model/engine T5's and year are they saying this for? And I will check it out.

what size engine is it?

On an 07 plate it should be fitted with something called a DPF or Diesel Particulate Filter and engines fitted with these require an oil that meets the VW507.00 spec. These will be a 5w-30 grade.

If you find a 5w-30 in shop then look on the can front and back, if it does not have VW507.00 on the can then dont use it.

Guy

Thanks Guy, mine is a '04 T5 Transporter with a 174 ps AXE engine without a DPF. I have been using Fuchs 506-01 which is the spec originally recommended. Some insist that 507-00 replaces 506-01 and can be used on our early non-DPF equipped engines but I have seen so many conflicting oil charts it would be good to hear your view.

Your correct, according to my book it is saying VW505.01 or VW506.01 depending on service schedule for the 2.5tdi T5 from 2003 to 2005 and from 2005 onwards VW507.00

You can see this for yourself by looking it up here http://www.olyslager-lubricants.nl/FuchsEurope/select.asp?language=1&category=2

There is no mention of using 507.00 in place of 506.01 in the earlier model.

505-01? I thought all the R5 T5 engines were 506-01 or 507-00. Just shows how daft these oil specs are. What chance does the average man in the street have? I have heard grim tales of what can happen if you use the wrong oil. It can really cost a lot of money. :(
