Hello All, As i am new to this site i'm not sure where to post this question but here goes. I've recently bought a 2001 A4 1.9TDi,It has done 149000 miles. My question is everytime i start it up from cold there is a 'rattle' sound coming from the engine but it only last's a second or two. Any ideas what it is? Cheers, Maccadax.

Welcome to the forum! You're best posting in the A4 topic for an answer as more people will read it there.

Out of curiosity, is this when you first start up? It might just be the tappets, as I understand it (I'm no expert, no doubt someone else will correct me / back this up) they can be a bit noisy for a few seconds after start up until the oil reaches them and it's pretty common.
