Has anyone ever changed these themselves? If so how easy was it?
Think 1 has gone on the girlfriends 99 1.8 20v, I can get a kit for less than £20 but wonder if its 'home' doable:o
Anyone have a haynes schematic or similar?

Hi what are you doing front or rear? Ive done fronts on a golf recently it can be done yourself but you will probably need to source some various diameters of metal bar or sockets for knocking the old beaings out and the new ones in, you need to take the hub carriers off to do them, if you have not done anything like this before i would leave them for somebody else to do also one of the inner races will end up left on the hub flange you will probably have to cut through these to get them off i did!, when you put the new bearings back in keep it square to the hub carrier and knock it into it using the outer race only and fit the circlip then put the hub flange spigot side up on a flat sturdy surface and knock the bearing /carrier assembly onto this using the inner race of the bearing only. Good luck hope this helps you decide. (This is quite brief).:)

Hi, go to Euro car parts and get a wheel bearing kit. You will need to depress both lower wishbones(susp. arms) and pull the the driveshaft out from the hub. Remove caliper and carrier, then with the steering wheel turned all the way to the outside, undo the 4 main splined bolts( special tool from Halfords or tool specialist !) and refit- note the right way round ! You may need to get a suitable ball joint press to remove the suspension arms. Use a new driveshaft holding bolt and torque to 190 Nm. You will need a long breaker bar to unscrew the driveshaft bolt. Also use suitable axle stands. Use lots of penetrating oil to remove the ball joint nuts and the rest of the stubborn bolts and discard as new ones should be used. Hope this helps.
