Do you have a list of the fault codes they have recorded?
What is your cars engine type code, such as ASZ or ARL?

W the code numbers and the cars engine code, descriptions take too long to cross reference and with not knowing the cars engine code it is not even worth looking. PM me the cars reg number when you have five posts and I can tell you the engine type code. Ask the mechanic for either VAG or P codes, preferably VAG codes.

The ATD is the 100PS engine
17849 (P1441) EGR valve (N18) circuit – open/short to ground
Check fuse 34 and wiring to EGR valve solenoid on bulkhead.
17957 (P15490 turbo charger wastegate solenoid N75 open/short circuit
16706 (P0322) Engine speed sensor G28 No signal
This is the crankshaft sensor.
19463 (P3007) Camshaft position (CMP) sensor- G40- No signal
17552 (P1144) Air Mass Meter G70 open/short to ground.
The N75, N18, G40 and G70 are all powered from fuse 34 but if that had blown you should also be getting an N249 valve fault. The G28 is direct to the ECU.
This reminds me of a 2003 ATD engined Golf 4 I had in last year for forum user Babs.

When I read the codes it had
5 Faults Found:
17932 - Fuel Pump Relay (J17): Open or Short to Ground
P1524 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17849 - EGR Valve (N18): Open Circuit or Short to Ground
P1441 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
19561 - Valve for Intake Manifold Flap (N239): Open or Short to Ground
P3105 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
18080 - Coolant Fan Control 1: Open or Short to Ground
P1672 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
18027 - Glow Plug Relay (J52): Open or Short to Ground
P1619 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
Readiness: 0 0 X X X
This turned out to be a faulty ECU and a friend of mine in the trade had one a few weeks back just the same. Check the fuse first but that G28 code doesn’t add up.

fantastic stuff, whent straight to fuse 34 and there it was blown. replaced fuse ....bingo .... all up and running. warning lights still on but ill guess thats just a case of getting them reset at tha garage. took for a quick spin and all seems normal. many thanks indeed. must find a way of repaying you. any idears.

It will probably go again, you will need to identify which component blew the fuse which will not be easy.
Don’t worry about thanking me, your car running again is reward enough.
