Has anyone had any experience of romoving the dials from their mk3 golf. I'm thinking about putting some white dials in my VR6 and wondered how fiddly it is. Do I need to take apart half the dash to get them out??

Nope its really easy, lower your steering column all the way down.
Pop your headlights switch out and the cover next to it on the opposite side take the blanking plate off and it will reveal another screw.(red arrows)
Now get a screwdriver and on the top of the shroud(green arrows) there are 2 clips, just gently pry it and it will pop off.
Now that will reveal your bare clocks there are 2 screws on either side of the clocks(blue arrows) undo these and your clocks will fall forward enough for you to get to the single plug on the back which just squeezes together and pulls out.
Now have a bit of a jigger pokery and manoever the clocks out.
Job done.
Ive just dont this on my missus car hence the pic i had.
Any other questions just ask me :beerchug:http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/4185/30102009086.jpg

No problem mate, the Lockwood ones are pretty standard as white dials go,i mixed them up with a different set of bulbs for that nice red glow.
I got my dials off ebay, cheapest on there £15.99 the guy has your sort(160mph)

I'd seen those dials before and thought they looked pretty cool. I see in the pic you have nice red needles. Mine are white and I rekon would prob look a bit wrong with the lockwood dials. What you think?

Yeah most are white, you have to get cracking with the touch up paint.
I got a nice Ford Rosso red as it is the brightest red i could think of.
Just get a touch up pen and give the needles a paint before you bob the white dials on.
Dont forget to keep the needles from resting on the stop when it is wet or you will end up with all your needles stuck at 0 lol.
I just popped a thin bit of card folded up to gently push up the needles and stop them returning, while i painted them.
Tis easy :)

Cool. I read the listing on Ebay for those funky dials and it says that there are no holes for the resting pin. I have sent them a message to ask if I am supposed to make my own holes!

Do these funky dials only work on the VR6 looms?
I want to change mine, but im not sure where to look for funky mk3 dials - Ive come across this type before.
I havent taken the plunge as I dont want to buy em and have them not work :1zhelp:

Nope they work fine if you havnt got a vr6,the only difference is that you need the 140mph version which they do here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK3-140MPH-PLASMA-GLOW-WHITE-DIALS-VW-201_W0QQitemZ250511524978QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Car sParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3a53a68472
Sammo:I asked the same question myself and you do have to pop your own holes in.Its not too hard, just cut a thin piece of car the same shape as the outline of the individual dial then just place it over and press to make an indentation in the card, then just transfer it over to your new dial mark the hole and pierce with something as the pins are only 1-1.5mm it doesnt have to be perfect.
