Hi

I currently have the RCD300, SatNav and ipod dock in my R32.

I am happy with the sound quality of the radio but think the ipod playback is poor.

What is the simplest upgrade I can do to achieve;

1) Better sound quality from the ipod
2) Track listings/artists showing on the SatNav screen

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

the RCD300 is not a sat nav head unit.

i don't think track names can be viewed on any head unit except the lateat RNS510 which is £1000+

Thanks for the reply.

I only got my car yesterday and dealer referred to the radio as a RCD300! I guess that should be RNS300?

Would my existing unit have any value if I were to upgrade to the RNS510? Paying over £1000 for me to only benefit from better ipod quality would tend to rule this option out

Many thanks again for any replies..

I don't think you can do it with a Mk5. In theory the RCD310, which is the new version of the RCD300, which is supplied in Mk6 Golf's will do it, but you might have to replace something called the Can-bus. You'd also need the MDI adaptor installing I believe.

(This is very much second-hand info I've gleaned from other threads on the forum.)

If you're happy to, you could go third party, get a decent double-din head unit which will display the info.

They aint that dear. Mine cost me £500. No Ipod adapter needed as it plays all my tunes from a 32GB SDHC card, with all track info on screen of course. A top upgrade IMO.

It'll fit perfectly into the Mk5.

If you have navigation then you'll have a full-height screen in your instrument cluster. If you have that, then you can benefit from a Dension Gateway 100 or 300 CAN which integrates with your cluster and multi function wheel or wiper stalk buttons if you don't have the multi function wheel.

See here for an example of how it works, it really is very good: http://www.sharkperformance.co.uk/news/article.asp?id=118
