I got in my car this morning, popped in the key device, normally at this point the radio comes straight on? Instead I heard a loud crackling sound from the rear parcel shelf speakers, "Like Thunder" for a short second, then the Radio came on?????

I was driving for a bit after and thought to myself that the radio sound, wasn't its usual "Surround" sounding? I later checked to find both rear parcel shelf speakers were dead

On my way home I popped the car into my local Audi dealer who very promptly sorted out the problem?

Apparently it was linked to my Audi Drive Select switch and something to do with the "Gala" system which needed resetting???

I drove away everything sounded back to normal now? for the time being A very strange problem? anyone else had this happen? is it likely to do it again? It sounded to me as if one of the amplifiers had blown, but obviously not

mine did this and audi ended up changing the amp.

Oh really???

Does your discriptions sound the same as mine?

I appeared to have lost all the "Surround" effect and it just sounded like a basic stereo, with the sound just coming from the front area speakers only.

To me it sounded like one of the amps was breaking down? producing this eratic "Crackling" sound which lasted about 2-3 seconds then nothing?

The Dealers said they had found a problem with the "Audi drive select" switch which required the whole system to be reset? What ever they have done has fitted it for the time being? but I'm not convinced

yes i had the same problems as you but i dont have the audi drive select.
i'm lucky to have vcds and it told me the sound system was faulty. when i went to audi they said there was a software update for it but later came back and said the amp would need replacing.

What you mean by VCD'S? I don't understand?

How recent we talking here? Have you got a list of what software version your system is on so I can check if mines an older version or not?

Thanks for you help on this one, I am expecting it to go again? :zx11:

I don't get a lot of sound from these rear parcel shelf speakers, it just seems to be a bit of high frequency stuff? but then only when you put your head on the parcel shelf? The sub is very quite too!!

I too have noticed that, most of the sound seem to come from the front and not much bass from the sub.
Others on the A5OC forum have similar issues.

My B&O system failed completely yesterday
First I had the very loud crackling sound you describe (CD was playing at the time) followed by ear splitting howl. The sound was so loud (couldn't stop it by turning down volume or turning off system) I had to pull over & switch off the ignition. The sound only stopped a few minutes later after the car's systems entered 'sleep' mode.
On trying the system subsequently, I have no sound whatsoever on any of the MMI functions (radio, CD, AMI, phone nav) the B&O sound system is completely dead.
Have spoken today with the dealer & booked the car in next week for 'diagnosis'.
They had not heard of anything similar.
I'm wondering whether the amp has blown or whether it is a software problem?
All MMI functions are otherwise OK
So for the time being I'm driving in glorious silence ! :(

Sorry to hear that, yes mine wasn't quite so serious, but on furture investigation the deal said it was related to my "Audi Drive Control" selector switch had malfuctioned ? A simple software reset and its back up and running at the moment? My only minor niggle is when playing long MP3 files, like over an hour in lenght, these tend to "jump" or skip like a CD would do if you went over a dump? Seems fine with stardard lenght CD track? so wonder whether its just too much for the system to "Cach" in memory?

Jeez - that doesn't sound good. The only time I've head of problems losing the B&O is when people have had their windows tinted (after maket) and the water's run down inside the door and fried the system.

Good luck.

I got the same issue, that "Crackling" sound drive me crazy. Went to dealer, but no malfunctions in VCDS etc.
I will try one more time to show them what is the sound quality after crackling noise.

Any reports on that?!

Sorry to hear that? Mines been OK since, touch wood, sometimes I am still convinced that when using the Radio it defaults to just stereo out of the two front channels with no real surround effect, but then again while playing mp3 AAC files the system comes to life and sounds a lot fuller if that makes sence, all in all the B & O is a great sound, best Factory Fit System I have heard... Good luck with sorting yours mate? Paul
