Hi all,
Newbie here and I've got my 2009 Audi A4 2.0 TDi S-Line.
Question about the MMI nav system. It doesn't allow me to enter the whole postcode and there is no automatic voice guidance i.e. for upcoming turns etc. The voice only works when I press the 'Info' button on the console...
What am I missing? Is the postcode issue normal and is there a way I can get the blasted wench to automatically tell me when I should turn instead of having to press her buttons!!! :aargh4:
Lol, beautiful beautiful car I am loving it!!!

Believe the postcode is "normal" same with a lot of German manufacturers - various reasons/excuses given.
You haven't said which NAV you have?
Regarding the voice - if 3G Hard-drive (and others?) - check settings under:
Function Selector Button => NAV
Function Selector Button => SETUP -> Voice guid. here are three options -complete/compact/off - select complete and try again.

Hi Mike, I i'm not sure which NAV systemI have, I've had the car for about 10 seconds and it's a company car!
When I get in the car tonight i'll have a play around. But the postcode thing is shocking TBH. I've driven lesser spec vehicles with satnav and they all recognised the full postcode?! But saying that the i-drive on my other car is equally as dodgy.
Anyway the interior is lovely and the bodywork is great. All in all a very good effort from Audi.
Thanks for the advice.

Ahh, I've just had a look around Google and it seems to be the 2G version...

Yes that be the same as mine!!! 2G. Yes thats the first problem I noticed was the fact that it will only accept 5 digits and not 7 as in our Post codes.
So the way I get round this is, its not ideal but use your PC and google maps etc to enter the Post code, print out the map detail around the place your going, then using the printed map together with the cross hair cursor select from map and select the destination by the shape of the roads, names etc, if this destination is going to used again then save it into the directory for later use. A bit of a farce but thats how I get round this shortcoming.... Hopefully Audi will issue a firmware upgrade to address this issue. well I do hope so????? PLEASE!!!!!!!

Firmware GOOD - should be free
Software BAD - i.e.map update, chargeable.....

You may have solved the lack of navigation prompts with what spellsinger advised, but - just in case - I guess the volume could be down for that too. Thought there's a setting for that... you might have to dig for it... so she might've been speaking, but you can't hear her. Just an extra thought.

Yes there a settings Menu called "Volume Settings" Here you can adjust all the volumes independantely like Traffic News Reports, Sat Nav Voice Prompts, Telephone Volume and Volume of Music/Radio while Sat Nav is speaking! Hope this helps?

Ok sorted the voice prompts according to Mike's instructions: Click on 'Nav' > then click 'Settings' > 'Voice Prompt' and you can select either Off, Compact and Full. Cheers for that.
I will not hold my breath for an update to the postcode issue. It seems Audi historically have a love-affair with it
The more I drive this beast the more I love it. The sound system is ear breaking.
I'm seriously considering a purchase in the future, but definitely wouldn't buy this engine again... I mean it's eager but it couldn't tug the skin off rice pudding!
Exactly the same spec but the 3.0 version would be something else! :firedevil I can get over the postcode blunder.
Edit: Can you upgrade to the 3G software version using a disc, or is there a hardware limitation preventing this option??
The 3G system is completely different hardware I'm afraid. It has a higher resolution screen, an improved processor with a dedicated graphics chip and runs of a hard drive, so upgrading would be a matter of 1000's of pounds I suspect - if at all.
However as you have the 2G system you can bask in the knowledge that the person telling you where to turn right or left actually sounds human and not like the Japanese idea of what a European newsreader might sound like when synthesized by a deaf person.
