Hi,
Bit of a silly one this...
I've had a 2008 Audi A4 2.0 TDI (143 PS) with Multitronic for about a month.
No cruise control.
I'm pretty happy with everything except trying to hold a speady speed.

I've never had an auto before and I find that my speed keeps drifting (both up and down).
This is at all speeds whether 30, 40 or 70.
Obviously in steady traffic I just keep a proper distance but otherwise without those clues I just can't seem to stop drifting in speed.
I also know that no officer is going to accept that as an explanation!

In relative terms this car is silent compared to what I've had previously.
However is it me, is this something I'll master (now have 30+ years of driving) or is there "something wrong"?

Also - this morning after about 2 miles into my journey the revs were a bit erratic for a minute.
Not excessive but never noticed it before.
Is this normal as it warms up?
Thanks

(sotry about the post in a8 - i was thinking "must post in b8, must post in..)

I have the same engine and box as you, it is my first car in a long time without cruise control and I too find it hard to keep my speed uniform. I was putting it down to missing cruise control.

Haven't noticed any erratic revving.

I have the same combo as well and agree!

It is down to the multitronic box imho. You pull away gently at about 1800 rpm, and it will just maintain 1800 rpm and the speed will build up to about 65mph with little discernable change of noise (engine or road).

I have set the speed warning through the MMI to 35mph as a compromise for town driving, and find that helps enormously my awareness of speed. If I am on a clear road I will also use cruise control to assist (although I must admit I think the cruise implementation on the A4 is nowhere near as good as on my previous 3-series, and I don't like it braking me to a lower speed).
