View Full Version : a3 1.8t ECU where is it?

does anyone know where i can find the ecu on my y2000 a3 1.8t quattro please?

the mapper says i need to find it as theres a code on it that he needs to tell if the laptop can be plugged straight in,

also,

will it be safe to have it remapped?

It's in the plenum chamber and to remove the engine control unit
Switch the ignition off.
Unscrew the windscreen wiper arms and remove the plenum chamber cover

Sounds a bit strange to me.. a 2000 A3 should be flashable over the OBD port. You shouldn't even need to open the bonnet.

If you want to save yourself the hassle, pop down and see me in Mansfield and I'll map it for you instead! Providing the engine has been looked after and is in good condition it's perfectly safe to have it remapped providing it's by a reputable tuner who knows what they're doing (and doesn't make you do half the job! ;)).

Thanks for the comments on the website, it's a work in progress and I need to add a lot of information to it.. just not had a minute to myself to do it lately!
