G'day everyone,

I have seen a posting on this subject regarding the T4 on here but was wondering if any of you on here have made any experiences in replacing the vapour seals on their Golf's. I have had heaps of water coming in after a storm and when checking behind the door cards I have found that the foil behind them has virtually shrinked altogether, literally guiding the water into the footwell of the car. I still have the original foil from 1985!!

Well, I almost managed to get the doorcards off completely but they still stick in the window area - not sure why and how to get them off. Also, I am unsure of how to glue/ attach the new foil to the door, I just placed the order with my VW dealership - have never done this before.

Anyhow, was wondering if you people have done this before - a pictorial illustration would really help ;o)

Many thank's in advance!

Regards,

- Nick

Nick, at the top of the door cards there are a few clips with a sort of pointed edge on them holding the doorcars in place. you just need to carefully pull the top of the door card away from the black plastic bit its clipped into.

if you have ordered new sheets to put in they already have an adhesive strip arount the edge, but if u are just cutting your own sheet of plastic you can stick it with interior adhesive spray. just make sure the surface is really clean before sticking it. to get the old gluey gunk crap off that was holding on the old sheet you can use white spirits but i used tar remover which turned it from hardened plastic to goey crap that wiped off and then i just washed the door to get rid of any remaining tar remover. there was a messy job dun on mine before where some half assed mechanic completely pained the door with glue after fixing a broken window so it would have took me ages otherwise.

wen i was done i took off the weatherstrips and dumped loads of water in and checked to see if it was leakin anywhere before puting the doorcard back on. if theres any leaks you will probably have to take it off an re-stick it but i found some tek7 very handy to stop any possibility of the slightest bit of water geting in, i know that sounds messy but if its not a show car you wont mind and your car will be bone dry which is the main thing

hope this helps
