Interior lights don't come on when doors open.

Hi. I've just bought a 2000 A3 TDi and when I open either of the front doors the interior lights do not come on (the switch on the interior lights is in the correct position).

The interior lights work fine when you switch them on manually.

The 'door open' micro-switches work fine (the dash display shows either door is open).

A diagnostics test on the central locking system shows the following fault "Interior Lights - Short circuit to positive".

Does this mean that the central locking control module is faulty or that a wire from the module to the interior lights has shorted? A relay that controls the interior lights may be faulty?
