View Full Version : Service Indicator says it's due when it shouldn't be.

I had my car serviced about 8000 miles ago, and it should be on long life services, so I wasn't expecting the DIS to flash up 'Service due in 1000 miles' just yet.

Does this mean that there's something wrong, or did the garage reset the service indicator incorrectly so that it thinks it's on fixed intervals?

I'll plug it in and do a code read later, but I wondered why it would do this?

Now I'm off to figure out how to read and reset the service settings with vag-com...

They have programmed the service indicator for a fixed interval,if you reprogramme it now, for long life, you will have driven 8000 miles. too many.

Can I reprogram it to say service in another 12,000, or should I just ignore it and do it like I did on my old car without an indicator?

I might just change the oil and filter and reset it - I know a lot of people here don't recommend variable intervals.

it is a good investment to change the oil annually
