First post so bear with me! I have trailed the guts out of my 2000 1.4 polo re the front seat/ panels/ steering column/ wiring and pedal box. In my excitement to get the dam thing out I removed the pedal pivot bolt and with all the wracking an foul language to get the clip off at the back of the brake pedal the brake pedal bush and spring fell out
I have had a good root around the site but can't find any info re putting the thing back together again. Would any one have a page from a workshop manul or a set of instructions that i could use to reassemble the brake pedal & spring etc.
Cheers

And if you had spoken to your local VW dealer, they may have done the whole job for free as long as the clutch itself is not faulty.

is this a well known problem with the polo or is it a certain year?

out of interest - is there a service tool for removing the pushrod ball end from the back of the brake pedal - or does everyone just beat the living crop out the plastic clip until it breaks ?

There is a tool, it does not work. I just snap the clip and fit a new one, most people fit a new pedal.

03 is a 9N1, not a 6N1 or 6N2 so no issue.

Hi,
Just a quick question on this subject.
Is there a known problem with the polo clutches/pedal boxes of these years Crasher ? with an issued service bulletin.
My daughter has a 99 1.4 CL (APQ) hatch and the clutch pedal has been rubbish since we got it app 6 months ago, no slipping just a bad feeling pedal.
Appreciate all advice
Cheers

Yes very much a known issue. VW were doing them under good will but apparently not any more. Often they need a new pedal box, cable and clutch-usually we have to do all three as the pedal box fails due to the weight of a faulty pressure plate.

A8 Tech, You will know what I mean about that tool as well, it is T10006A, similar to the useless T40024 used to separate the pedal on A4’s etc, it just bends when you try to use it. The clip costs £3 and takes seconds to swap over.

Love them and spent many a hour walking around like a hunch back after replacing pedal box's.I stand five foot six at a push so became a favourite workshop controllers target for this type of job, after fitting a good few I shrunk two inches and developed plyer type fingers.

Thanks for clutch history Crasher, As the car has about 110K on clock I cant see VW having much goodwill left !!! ( but will try all the same ).
Way I see it now at this mileage its probably had at least 1 x clutch renewal which "should" cover the original pressure plate issue, so next move will be check out breakers for a vehicle with new looking clutch cable & strip out the pedal box as well.
Going by previous posts it appears i will need some kind of new plastic seat clip for brake pushrod ? if there is anything else i should have on hand before stripping my p/box out please advise, so i can turn it round quick as poss.
Cheers
