I was stuck behind a car doing 20 on a back road yesterday and when it became safe I went out for the overtake. 2nd gear was fine then in 3rd there seemed to be a flatspot at about 5000rpm and there was no power after this.:mad: I managed to get to the junction under the steam I already had and tried to pull away but the car was spluttery and had no power. I turned off the ignition and re-started to see if this sorted anything, however it was just the same. I then pulled over and turned the engine off and called the wife who had been out in the car earlier. After reassuring me that it was driving fine when she had it.:boggled: The phonecall took about a minute and I then restarted the engine. Now, everything was back to normal.:confused: I've since had it up to 6500rpm in both 2nd and 3rd gears with no flatspots or judders. Does anyone have any ideas what may have been wrong?
I should have said I have a remapped 2.0Tfsi on an 06 plate. Remap was done by Celtic Tuning and everything seems to be ok so I don't think that is the problem. My possible thoughts are a bit of dirty fuel or electronic glitches. I normally use normal unleaded but some have told me I should be using super unleaded.

Just happened to me again. However this time there was no resetting and the cutting out happened every time the engine was placed under load. Fortunately an RAC van parked up next to me and I was able to get his assistance. He thought it sounded like a fuel pump problem but after listening to the pumps under the back seats he said that both sounded as if they were working. When he put the computer on to the car the fuel rail pressure dropped when the revs hit about 5000rpm and the engine died. Again he said this seemed like a fuel pump problem and suggested that maybe the impellor had come off the shaft on one of the pumps. Anyway, had to get towed home. Does this sound like a fuel pump problem or does anyone have any other ideas? How much will a fuel pump cost?

Could well be the fuel pump mate, or the filter might be clogged with crap which is reducing the fuel making it to the engine, at 5000 RPM, the fuel pump will be working hard to get enough fuel to the engine.

Try getting it into the garage and get them to check fuel pressure and AFR's when the car is under load, if the AFR's are lean high up the revs then that's probably a good indication that the engine is not recieving enough fuel, could be fuel pump, filter or even the injectors.

Take it to your mapper to check things like the AFR's, cos they will have mapped it for certain AFR's, and only they can tell you if it's running too lean for how they mapped it.

Not sure on the Audi's, but ideal AFR's for Evos are 14.5 on idle & cruise (closed loop), 12.5 on spool up and 11.5 on WOT.

There werw two covers and the RAC man listened to both so I assumed there was two pumps. After having the car in the garage it appears there is only one in the tank and one HP pump at the engine. Garage replaced filter and says the pump is dirty too, he then tried to clean it but says it's a sealed unit and has to be replaced. £280 + VAT:aargh4: + labour. What are AFR's and WOT's? The car had been running fine for 4000 miles since the remap so I think they are fine whatever they are:confused:

WOT= wide open throttle

Now had a new tank pump and fuel filter fitted and the car is still cutting out. Mechanic says he's at his wits end with it and is now going to clean the fuel lines all the way to the valve before the HP pump. I'm really struggling with this.
Does anyone know if Audi would part contribute to the cost of repairs due to the car being only four months out of warranty and having a full Audi servoce history. The current work and last service were carried out at an independent garage by a ex-Audi Mastertech.

i wouldnt waste ur money on that how do you know its not the HPFP causeing the problem also the intank pump runs off its own ecu has VCDS gave you any codes at all ?

Apparently the diagnostics is still showing a fault as a low pressure fault so I assume that is why he is concentrating on the low pressure side of things.
I've had the car for seven months now and driven 6000 miles, 4000 after the remap and all was fine until about 3 weeks ago when the initial problem started. Really missing the car and just want it sorted.
Just out of interest, how much would an HP pump cost? Only seen the APR one at £400. :1zhelp:

APR are around 400 but thats only to rebuild ur own pump uprated wich u dont realy need can you get the fault code it could be a few things with low preasure mine was chuckin low preasure fault when i had a air leak get the code an post it
