This is replica of RNS-510 but as you can see it has even better functions...and it`s much cheaper...works also for GOLF/JETTA/PASSAT B6/CC/TOURAN
So what do you think?
Is this possibile to install and how ...? :) Does anyone have expirience with this...? Do you think that I need to upgrade my can gateway module?Becouse I`ve heard that someone has upgraded rcd 300 with similar product(I mean on oem rns-510,mfd2,etc...) and had battery drain problems? I'm asking this becouse my car is 2005 and it probably has earlier versions of can gateway but i don`t know becouse it has built in Can Bus according to the text(built in can bus...what that means?)...Seller told me that this will fit perfectly to my car and that everything is plug and play but...(sellers on the net :) )
I went to official vw dealers and servicers in my town but they don`t know nothing about this kind of swaps which is shame...If anyone know i would appriciate any help...more details better :)
This is my first post here...

Thanks in advance...

Hi Djosla,
Did you fit this system into your Passat? If so,
- where did you get it?
- How are getting on with it, i.e. GPS usage etc

Thanks,
Kunaal

iirc they are about £550, be careful though there are some similar ones for £400 ish, but no one other than a PO Box dealer seems to sell them.

I have Passat 55 reg. upgraded my rcd 300 to rcd 310 and it drained the battery on two occasions. Had diagnostic from vw. was told canbus gateway cannot be upgraded. Even when switched off the canbus thinks this radio is still on and drains your battery completly.
Also spoke car audio specialists and they said same thing and also said none of the vw systems have an ignition live, so they cannot even be wired another way. could have saved myself some money if I asked this audio specialist in the fist place. Now i'm opting for rcd 300 mp3 which is exactly the same only it has mp3 written just over cd slot. Pre 2008 vw's are not compatible with these second generation radios, " BE CAREFULL AND SAVE YOURSELF MONEY AND HASSEL AND DO SOME REASEARCH FIRST I LEARNED THE HARD WAY!!!
Hope this helps you and others too!!

Lezzer

You can upgrade the canbus gateway.

Also can't be much of a car audio specialist you're talking to as it wouldn't be too much work to take a switched live from the fuse box if you didn't want to upgrade the gateway.

I'm no expert obviously like yourself. Just telling what vw told me.
cheers!

Interesting... I have a switched live feed left over from a previous 3rd party stereo I had installed, so is this the best way to avoid messing with the canbus? Is it easy to identify which is the live wire to replace?

Thanks

Seriously considering getting an rns 510 too, is there much involved in changing the canbus module ? What will i need to vagcom if i do change it ? I mean if i put in a new canbus will everything still work as normal and i just have to code the new head unit or will i have more to do ?
Saw this on ebay , which claims to solve battery drain issues ? Any ideas ........

I heared from other people that upgrading canbus has given them all kinds of electrical problems, like reverse lights not working, faulty handbrake etc... don't know if this is true but don't wanna try and cause more headaches, especially when I know nothing about auto electrics. rcd 300 mp3 upgraded unit for me!!!
think dealers don't wanna get involved with it so probably just fobbing me off. end up costing a fortune just to play MP3's on a shinier player, thats all rcd 310 is at the end of the day, they just want me to buy a new car no??? lol"

sorry richiemac,

I just put the link on for the rns 510 battery drain adaptor as well, didn't see it on your post.

I sent the guy in Poland an e mail about it and he said that all you do is pull out the RNS 510 and plug this beast in - all using existing connections with no cutting or joining of any cables. And it supports the latest firmware apparently.

I asked him to confirm that what he said was correct and quoted firmware version 2720 which is on the unit I am looking to buy.

If I take he plunge or get any more info on this I will post again.

Hi Guy's....
Was just looking around the Forum and getting a feel for things... We're quite new to the VWAudi Forum and stumbled over this Thread.
We have extensive knowledge in this area of OEM replacements and as mentioned.... they do vary on price dramatically.
Not all that you see is Gold.... Meaning, you order one thing and end up getting something that does not even resemble what you initially ordered...?
These units are developed to be an easy fit and complications can arise is you have Steering controls or Not....
If you have steering controls, then the CamBox that’s supplied should work well, if purchased from us anyway, however if you do not have steering controls, then additional wiring maybe required. An Ignition feed for instance.
I do admit i have not heard of these units having Power issues, but yet again I'm only referring to our range.
Feedback is good and loving the Site.... Really helps us to understand what going on out in the real world.
Please feel free to contact me if you need some advice on these OEM replacement units..... Keen to help.
Just for reference, we have a good selection of these units via our site.

Also, a rough video of one fitted recently into a VW Golf - same as the one mentioned within this feed

We also fit them too..... :biglaugh: a lot of them... :D
