My 55 Passat has done well at 80k+.
However generally I'm an easy driver. ( regular long distance fuel cons. at 59-61/ 3 mpg )
But am now thinking of changing and am considering a DSG version.
Do any of you have any views re : reliability and performance.
many thanks

Even though mine is going in the dealer tomorrow for a Mechatronic unit change (under guarantee) ;) I still think the DSG is great. It gives me pleasure every time I drive it!:D
The fault, by the way, it is "chuntering" at low speed, fixed throttle, when cold.

I have a DSG passat 2.0tdi (140) and the dsg box is fantastic. It is a pleasure to drive and is the smoothest auto I have ever driven (this list includes an Merc E class car and it is better than that box). Go for it! I asked a passenger to say how many times we changed gear on one journey and they didn't feel or hear one gear change in the journey - that's how good it is

I've had nothing but trouble for the last 11 months.
Two new mechatronic units, apparently, but still playing up. Must 'phone the garage again in the morning.
The dealer has lent me a Jetta DSG a couple of times and that was a real pleasure to drive. My Passat is horrible by comparison.

Hmm, that is unfortunate.
I have nothing but praise for my Wife's DSG Jetta 2.0 TDI 140 & my R36 DSG Passat.:approve:
As for the cat, perhaps it will get tired of doing that!:D

I drove a DSG for the first time yesterday, so FWIW this is a virgin's viewpoint. The last time I drove an auto was about 1984 in a friend's Peugeot 504.
I wasn't auditioning the DSG. It was the only Passat CC GT the dealer had available and the purpose was to try out ACC before making a purchase decision.
I found the DSG mated to the 170 TDI very impressive, very smooth in D where it was usually a gear higher than I would have been unless I asked it to get a move on. My wife did not notice the gear changes unless a sudden rise in revs.occurred when the sound gave the game away.
Very impressed with the manual changing. As said earlier in this thread you only need to change up, leaving the 'box to downchange for you as you slow/brake. Couple this with good anticipation and progress is very smooth.
Was I converted? No, just a little tempted which I overcame. I don't do enough driving in heavy traffic to justify the cost.
