View Full Version : AHHHH Will it fail MOT??!
My damn expensive car has gone in for MOT today :1zhelp:
I am a little worried it will fail on the brakes, as they judder slightly, only a little but they do.....
:1zhelp::1zhelp:
Will it fail?
What is it that is making them do that and how much will it cost me? :(
Could really do with this car just passing and only costing me £50 at the garage for once :(

Juddering brakes could be a number of things, but usually it's a sign that the disks are warped. With that you're looking at new disks (I'd guess at least 2) and new pads coming in around £250 at a guess (And that is a guess).
If it's just minor then the MoT place probably won't notice unless they do a road test.

Warped disks as above, play in the steering arms, unbalanced wheels, un-equal braking pressure can cause this. It's most likely the disks, they're easy enough to change yourself if you've got an hour or two and a jack, stands, sockets etc

How did you get on then? Stick the handbrake on instead of sitting on the brakes when your at the lights/waiting in traffic, it allows the discs to cool evenly and thus prevents the shakes :-)

That used to be a terrible problem on Jags (XJ40, XJ300, XJ308) in the states. I was over there in the early 90’s and visited a Jag dealer in LA with a friend, who had a quite new XJ40, over the issue, it was driving them and the dealer potty. It turned out to be localised cooling of the discs when sitting with the brakes on after hard braking.
