check the steering wheel electrics ecu as these use to fail on early cars

remove drivers under dash
get a mirror and torch and look at the steering column about half way down there is a small ecu attached to the column this is the part with the number on it
sorry cant remember the complete number but there was a recall when the car was in for servicing

Not going to be anything to do with ESCL (electronic steering column lock) or convenience system as this would cause the engine not to turn over at all. You wouldnt get any dash lights either. Most probably 1 of the injectors has gone down knocking the whole injector system out. Easy to find out which injector has shut up shop, take camcover off, then disconnect number 1 injector and try starting, if doesnt start then reconnect number 1 and disconnect number 2, then try starting again. Keep doing this untill the engine starts, when engine starts the injector disconnected is the faulty one. HTH
