hello all,

Newbe to here (used to have a TT) :biglaugh:

I have a B7 A4 avant. What would be cool is to retrofit an integrated sat nav. After a tread search and a trawl through google I am at an impass.

Mine is the single din concert stereo, so changing to double Din is straightforwad if only a little complicated and ££.

However I have a monochrome DIS. Is it worth going to the RNS-E DVD based system and putting up with the DIS problems (if there are any of course)...or should I go for the monochrome cd based sat nav (Does that fit better with the monochrome DIS?). while I am at it do I have to get the DVD player in the back for the DVD based system?

All in all I bet about £600 for RNS-E and can't be more than £400 for cd nav.

Help, advice ideas anyone.

Cheers,
Big Ian

There is no remote DVD player for the RNS-E, its a self contained unit. They are under £400 on Ebay. D-DIN conversion doesnt cost much if done DIY.

The CD nav is hopeless IMO. I wouldnt bother. The RNS-E will work OK with your red DIS, (just needs turning off/on once to enable NAV instructions to be displayed, radio/CD info will display fine.)

RNS-E is good but not amazing. No touch screen so inputting data can be slow, Nav only does first 5 digits of postcode, Ipod adapter/support is crap - no track data, Digital radio isnt available, It wont play DVD's ,It does have SD card slots, good but they wont take SDHC cards so you are limited on size.

But it does look nice in the dash, I put one in my A4 for what its worth. i looked at aftermarket ones but they just didnt look 'right' in the dash.

Cheers Isaac,

I think that is what I have got from the search I did.
The on/off thing will sorta get on my nerves a bit. I hate stuff that does not quite work right.
However i see it being much better than my stick on the screen garmin with the associated cables.

I am surprised that the rns-e does not fully interface with an ipod though??

P.S. I have the factory phone prep bluetooth etc. Does this complate matters when coding?

Issac, I see what you mean. There are a couple of things on the market that will do it though for the ipod.
Might have to wait for my birthday to get the stuff, but irt is a deffo doable mod.

thanks for your help it has convinced me.
