I have a minor iritation with my new Golf, where the bumper connects to the main body (near the lights) on the passenger side it is not clipping in so protudes slightly, see picture. Minor I know but grates everytime I wash it.

Was passing VW dealer today so asked them if the could sort it, they said "we don't really do things like that on site here" and they pointed out it could have come lose via wear and tear (it obviously has as wasn't like that when I picket it up)

Will try another dealer when I get the chance but if anyone has a quick home made fix would be grateful to here it / or should I be more forceful with the dealer and tell them to sort it (wondering if its a complex job which involves dis-assembling the bumper hence their reluctance?

I would get the dealer to sort it out. Totally unacceptable to find something like this on a brand new car.:zx11:

I wouldn't fix it yourself, delaers are always looking for ways to invalidate warranties.

This is absolutely unacceptable. I would take it straight back to the dealer and tell them you won't move until it's sorted. I definately wouldn't leave it

how could it be "wear and tear" the car is brand new and has a body warranty still valid. ill be fuming if it was my car. go to dealer and demand him to sort it, if not take it with VW direct. there is no excuse for that.
please keep us informed.
cheers

Absolute nonsense from the dealer. This is not wear and tear, at this stage, or any stage really. Name and shame, and go to another dealer!

I'd say it's not wear and tear - you can't possibly state that as why on earth would it come loose like that? Wear and tear is acceptable on, say, a steering wheel if you did 90,000 miles or tyres if you did 20,000 - but on a bumper? No.

I'd say that either a bracket has come loose or a bolt has sheared or something like that.

I'd reccomend that you try another dealer first, if VW are not playing ball, go to a good bodyshop and get them to check it out - try to get a written assessment from them and take that to VW. I'd tell VW, in a letter, that's what you're doing first though so you've got a proper, documented, trail.

[Devils advocate hat on] VW could, potentially, argue that it's accident damage [Devils advocate hat off] - I'm not saying that, but that might be their argunment.

I'd ring VW at Milton Keynes and try and get someone on the technical side to speak with. Then tell them the problem and what the dealer has said.

The bumper is clearly defective and must be put right under warranty.

You might try here first..

0800 0833 914 (customer care). At least it's a freephone number ;-)

Many thanks for all the input, am going to take it to a different dealer later today and see what they say before I go down the VW route.

Of course it must. Any VW dealer worth his salt will have the necessary departments for body alignment rectification, under warranty or at least have contacts who undertake such work.
A little less prevarication here, is needed, I think and just go to the dealer and create a stink if necessary.
I wouldn't put up with that sort of treatment but there again, I'm a bit longer in the tooth and have a life's experience of the s**t people can throw at you!

Well just been to another VW dealer, they have agreed, albeit grudgingly to take the bumper off and put it back on again under warantee; seems like this is a fairly big job.

However thay said "probably been bumped in a car park which is why it has come off". My concern is when I drop it off they will claim this again and not undertake the work under warantee; which leaves me having to kick up a fuss or maybe even pay for it.

Now debating whether to just let it go and put up with it; poor service all round really.

Don't put up with it. Make sure they do it under warranty. You can do it!

surely if someone bumped into your car so forcefully to make the bumper come off, you should have some scratch marks or any other sort of indication for this. if there are signed for this, it is obviously a warranty issue

I bumped mine ever so slightly, i mean hardly touched a short wooden stake in the ground and this happened to me.

sorry but looks like someone has nudged you.

Mine goes in tomorrow for mods anyway so i wasnt overly bothered but on inspection it looks like the clips arent that great and if they are bust or stretched you may need a reskin.
