Could someone with an RCD510 in a Mk6 GT TDI tell me whether their GALA settings are noticable i.e. it does what it should and raises the volume for say motorway cruising when vehicle noise levels high and then lowers it back so you're not deafened at roundabouts etc?
I've had my GT for a week now, and it's the one thing I can't seem to get to work as I think it should (and did in my MkIV).
Any hints / tips appreciated.
Cheers,
Dunc.

To be honest, I have never detected much difference with GALA turned on. I, admittedly don't travel very fast very often but on my MK5 I had the GALA setting quite high but travelling at 60 to 70 mph did not notice much increase in volume level.
I have set my MK6's GALA level to 7 and will try and assess whether I notice any increase in volume levels.

It works OK in my GT TSI, although you do need to turn the GALA almost all the way up, before the volume boost becomes noticeable.

Thats the point of GALA....
With my current car, I gradually have to increase the volume as my speed increases, and going off the motorway, going form 70mph to 30mph, the music seems very loud.
In my friends Mk6 with an RCD310 and GALA turned on, it just sounds right as you go faster and slower, you don't notice the volume changing.
When you go faster and if you have to turn up the volume, turn GALA up a notch. If it seems to get louder as you go faster, turn GALA down.

Is GALA available on the RCD310, then?

Yes, of course! It's there in the setup menu along with other parameters that can be adjusted.

Awesome, that's pretty much the only thing I don't like about the stereo... it gets too loud when I hit the motorway. I'll have a play tomorrow :)

I can't find it on my RCD510. Where is the setting?

Well mine's an RCD 310 and am sitting indoors at the moment but IIRC you turn on the radio and then press 'Menu' followed by 'Setup' and you'll find it there. In mine, you have to scroll left or right to see additional features.

Strange this I still can't find it on my RCD510. I don't appear to be able to scroll left or right in the Settings Menu.
PS I take the above back. I read the manual and found the Settings page after pressing the little button on the top right of the device that I thought was just for Tone settings.

I've not got it on my Clarion (the CANBUS adapter has the option to plumb it in though).
When I had the RCD310 though, I found it a bit of an intrusion to be honest...

Have you read or even got the RCD 510 instruction manual that came with your car? All my car instruction booklets and RCD310 booklet are all 'bound' together in the manual in the glove locker.

Hi, the OP here again,
So; does anyone have a Mk6 GT TDI, preferably on 18's, and can verify that they can actually notice GALA doing it's thing?
I'm really struggling to hear it compensating for increases in road / tyre noise with speed, so much so that I'm thinking it's broken.
Cheers,
Dunc.

Yes as I said 'I read the manual'.

Mine works noticeable on the motorway but only with window down (obviously not all way)

When I had the RCD310 in, GALA worked just fine - needed to tweak the settings as you'd expect, but it worked a treat :)
Try this - get the car up to about 50 and set GALA so it'll over compensate - drive up to 70 (or 60 on an A road y'honour) and see if it gets louder. If it does, then slow back down to stationary and see if it gets quieter. Sometimes seeing if it gets quieter is easier to spot than waiting for it to get louder.

THanks - I'll give it another go tomorrow. I am wondering if it's something to do with the order I set the settings in - i.e. 'switch on volmue' set to how I want it, and then setting GALA. Oh well, I'll experiment a little more and get back to you.
