Hello all.
I have an 06 1.9TDi Estate. After the car has been run, and the engine is nice and hot, when the engine idles, it feels like it's misfiring. When in gear and moving, it does not.
Have recently had it in main dealer and they said their computer diagnostics could NOT find anything wrong. I begged to differ, and took the guy out for a drive t prove there was a fault. Sure enough, after a 5 mile drive up the motorway and back again, awhen at a red light and engine idling, the car felt like it was misfiring, in a very irregular, but frequent pattern.
Their advice - 'due to the emissions laws, the engines now idle at much lower revs, and this is why i feels like it's misfiring'. My opinion on that - excuses excuses as they don't know whats wrong.
Worth mentioning that the dial shows idle revs are between 800 & 850 which doesn't seem particularly low to me.
This car is new to me and I gave up a crappy Vectra 2.0DTi for this, which at 5 years older, and an engine sounding like a bags of bolts, did not feel like this one does.
Any ideas??
Cheers

Hello again.
There was a recall on the fuel pumps on some Diesel engines.
I had my fuel pump and filter replaced under warranty at the first service. Although I didn't notice a misfire or rough idle, my engine management light was on.
My engine light has since came back on but I can get it to extinguish buy revving the nuts of it for 30 secs when warmed up. The next time I switch it on the light is off. Happens every couple of weeks.
800 - 850 RPM seems about right. I was giving someone a quick driving lesson in the car once and after stalling 2 or 3 times I noticed that the car was sitting at 1200 RPM at idle. I wonder if it was compensating for the 'conditions'?

If it is a manual gearbox try it with your foot on the clutch, If it feels ok with your foot on the clutch then it could be your dual mass flywheel.

Possible dodgy injector(s)?
Mine is an 06, and I recently had to replace all my injectors.
Maybe take it to an indie with VagCom to get it scanned?

Would the main dealer not have used a VagCom?
I paid for a years warranty for everything when I bought the car at 3yrs old, so I only have the option of taking to the dealer I bought it from, whic incidentally is not a VW dealership, tis Evans Halshaw Renault/Nissan.

The 1.9 engine is known to suffer from injector wiring loom problems which manfest as a misfire or juddering. This may not show on a diagnostic check at first.

I thought you`d got it from a main dealer and they were maybe just trying to give you slopey shoulders, sorry...then again, second opinion amy be worth it. Mine used to kinda shudder at traffc lights, but felt ok when driving. Tried replacing the wiring loom, didnt help, then it was discovered that it was injectors. Mine arent the first to go either...

Thing is, I want to get this sorted now whilst I have warranty, but they keep telling me to leave it to see if problem becomes worse, then bring it back in. by that time, my warranty could be out!!
If the 1.9 engine suffers from wiring loom problems as suggested above, and/or faulty/dirty/clogged injectors, but htese don'#t show up an a diagnostics computer, how do I get the VW service people to diagnose a problem which clearly exists. Because their computer "says no" seems to mean that they just wash their hands of it! :(

Why not take it to a VW dealer for a diagnostic - you don't have to tell them where you bought the car, and for what it would cost it might well be worth it.
If not, keep a record of everything, visits etc. so that if it reveals itself when the warranty expires you'll have an argument. Get the dealer to acknowledge the visits - their attitude will tell you something about them.
