Hello everyone.

I am new here and need help! The rear side lights have stopped working on my 2001 1.4 5dr polo. The brake lights and indicators work fine as do the fog light and reversing light.

I have checked the bulbs and all the fuses and the earth looks good.

any ideas on what this could be?

many thanks

Rich.

Try cleaning the connections with a bit of WD40 and light sandpaper

If that dont work try looking at the connectors and the wiring

If fuses 4 and 5 are OK I would say it is the switch both the front would not work so the feed to the switch should be OK too and an earth failure to the rear lights would stop other lights working so that does not add up.

I have a 2000 polo 1.0E that has the rear drivers side light not coming on. The cluster works on the other side, so no connection or bulb issues. The voltage from the bulb is 2V only instead of 12V. Both fuses appear okay. Any suggestions gladly recieved.

Is it a 6N1 or 6N2?

Its the shape before the round light model, its on a V plate so may be 1999.

How can I tell the 6N? version?

The round light model is a Polo 4 9N1 so yours will be a Polo 3 6N but on a V plate it must be the pre facelift model. These tend to be distinguished as the 6N1 and 6N2.

The reason I need to nail this down so accurately is that from October 1999 production (not registration) the wiring changed considerably. If your car is a 99, the chassis number would be wvwzzz6NzXYxxxxxx and it could even be a 6N1 with a chassis as late as wvwzzz6NYY050000.

It has 6NZYY in the Vin number. I have had the switch out and I jumpered the socket from the 12V to the RH side light connector the lights work, so you are right it is the switch. Funny though with an ohm meter the 12V to RH light connector appears to switch fine when unconnected from the harness plug.

I will look at prices as this will not be cheap. Thanks for your help. Your first idea seems to be the right one.

Which side of wvwzzz6NYY050000? The headlight switch for both 6N’s is around £80 from a VW dealer.

The VIN is 545???. I have a part number on the switch of 1c0941531 and when searching on ebay I get 1c0941531A which has 2 fogs instead of my one fog. Does that matter as they ae only £25?

WVWZZZ6NZYY545??? Makes it a 6N2 so the switch you need would be 1C0 941 531 A 20H.

Thanks for the confirmation. will this item be the same?

The only difference is the front fog option on the switch front. The numbes mach your description.

Fitted the switch today, all working. The 'A' version gives 2 fog light settings or front as well as back, but it all works :-)
