B6 Passat front hub bolt

The main front hub bolts on B6 Passats can be 1 of 2 designs - 22mm hex or 12pt star. Does anyone know if these have the same threads and can be interchanged? The local main dealer only lists the 12pt star type whereas the ones fitted to my vehicle are 22mm hex. I'm about to replace the CV boot which requires a new hub bolt on reassembly.

That's odd because the only one I can see listed up to 08 is the hex bolt. The spline one lists after that. They are the same thread but the spline one may be slightly shorter.

Do you know the VW part number for the hex type so I can get my local dealer to order the correct one?

The number I found is N 910 406 01 It says Hexagon head bolt M16x1.5x80. You could try that with the parts guy and see what comes up.

Thanks ... it could be that VW are using the newer spline bolt on all B6's and that's now the only part they carry. I'll have another visit to the main dealer on Monday and see what they say. Thanks again for the info.

Spoke to mechanics at main dealer and they said that they don't replace the hub bolt on B6's stating that the CV boot kit doesn't include a bolt so it doesn't get replaced.
