I'm driving a 2005 2.0T (2WD) A4 Avant and am very suprised to be matching the official mpg of 36+ (in mostly long journeys, but not hanging about). Unlike my previous few cars, which have all been naturally aspirated petrol V6's, I'm not finding much benefit in terms of performance from super unleaded, and no advantagein economy. What have others found? I religiouly used super unleaded in my last car (alfa 3.2) as the difference in economy more than made up for the difference in cost, though the performance difference was minimal. The Audi is perhaps a little less laggy at low revs on super, but I drive a lot of miles and having tried a few tanks of both I'm convinced there is no economy advantage.

Sometimes the ecu is slow to readapt, try disconnecting battery for a short while then hopefully ecu will relearn it's new values for the super unleaded... :beerchug:

My tuned 2.0T runs like a dog on 95.. I was desperate today and there was only 95 available.

I have run most of my cars on super unleaded and I believe the advantages are there, I can certainly feel the difference. Can't say much for economy but I would stick to the recommendation of 98RON+ and I would say specifically V-Power especially as some FSi engines are starting to display problems with the inlet manifold and tumble flaps due to carbon deposits (one of the possible down sides to direct injection).

If I chip it (which is a possibility as long as economy in normal driving, and tractability in traffic, are not affected) then I'll use Super every time, tuned turbo engines seem to need it. But - despite being very sensitive to car changes - I really struggle to feel a difference at the moment even including a battery disconnect while I was running Super (for fitting - or failing to fit - a Dension iPod connector.)

I recall a test of a Mk5 Golf GTi on different fuels and it showed no benefits on Super, whereas the highly tuned NA engine in the same test (E46 M3) showed some gains on Super. I bet the results are different on chipped engines. But I'd want to be sure the transmission/drivetrain in my 2WD model are fine with more torque before chipping. Such parts are rated by torque and if I can find out whether my gearbox etc are the same as a model like the TDi's or V6 that have more torque, I'll be happier...

The drivetrain on your A4 is more than capable of handling a remap, I've done many of them.

I believe the manual gearbox is the same across the petrol range but I'd need to confirm that.
