Hello all,
I have just bought a mark 4 golf, 2001, 1.8T. I used to have the same model years ago and the stereo in it was fantastic, excellent bass etc. But in this one I have now (with the same head unit) the sound is really lacking, very tinny even when the bass is turned up full. If the volume is loud enough you can get some bass from the speakers...does this mean the head unit is faulty...the amp gone or something?
Any help greatly received. Cheers

i'd check the speakers arent hammered, water may have got in or damp an corroded the coils, just a suggestion

Thanks for the reply. I went to Halfords and got someone to check the wiring on the head unit, turns out it was wired to a hands free kit. I have now put all the original wiring back on, which has made a big difference, but still lack of punch at low volumes. I will check the speakers as you have suggested

depends on the hands free kit? shouldnt really make a difference cos its a pass through unless its muted where the control box will put the phone sound through front speakers, odd though, what kit was fitted? bury/nokia cradle kit? was it fitted by a couple of hero's? :biglaugh:

Apparently is a nokia hands free kit, I dont know who fitted it as it was in there when I bought it, I dont use it so I plan to take all the wiring out. There must be a box somewhere will all the wiring in, near the glove box. But that shouldnt really effect the stereo now as I have unplugged it?
I noticed yesterday that when I first started the car and the radio came on it was very very tinny and bad sound, then after 4 or 5 seconds the proper sound "kicked in"
