Hello All,

I have a Passat TDi 130 (not sure if that makes a difference) and the front windows have stopped working, the passenger one about 2 months ago, and the drivers one yesterday.

When I say they ahve stopped working, there is a grinding noise when I try to put the windows up or down.... They appear to be free of whatever magical machine hides behind the door panel that lifts them up or down.

I have looked at the guides on how to remove the panel and then what should I be looking for? In all probability does anyone have any ideas what the problem is and what I will need to buy b4 I start? And what problems am I likely to face in fixing them and getting the panels off and on.

Thanks and I look forward to any replies.

There's a door skin behind the door card which houses the e/w mechanism. What you will need to do is replace the cable that is driven through the mechanism which pulls the windows up and down. I had the same issue on my car, the whole mechanism needed to be replaced. Cost £30 for the part and £10 for fitting. Hope this helps

A common fault on VW's, usually a regulator, but after my missis slammed my door i heard something drop down inside. The bloke that repaired it said its a diabolical design, it was a small round piece of plastic that fell out, but once it has fell out, will only fall out the once.

You are just as well replacing the whole plate that carries the regulator mechanism if the cable has broken. I bought seperate bits to repair and none fitted. So got the whole plate, about £80 from a dealer, and a steraightforward job if you have the correct tools for removing door trim

Don't suppose you chaps know/remember what the part no/name it is that needs to be replaced? I've got exactly the same problem on my Passat.

Also, if you could suggest where I could get one? None of the dismantlers around Swansea have any Passats available.

Well behind on this thread!!

Mine went last month and after much ebay searching and number crunching I stuck the boot in and went to Sinclair's Port Talbot.

Complete mechanism including all the gubbings to bolt straight onto the door. Charged 1 1/2 hours labour and now works perfectly.

£81 for mechanism and £45 labour.... yes he is cheap!:beerchug:
