Good Afternoon All
I am a potential Audi A4 owner; at present I have a R**er 45 TDi but need a larger car for towing. Always liked the VAG products (used to work in one of the dealerships) and I've been drooling/dribbling over the A4 Avant TDi 130 range.
Old person, 72, but still in full-time work close to Heathrow, commuting from Oxford. Hobbies: car maintenance (natch), DIY, music and looking after our replica (in other words kit....) Ford 1929 Model 'A' Roadster.
Hope to glean loads of good info here, and possibly usefully contribute.
WARNING...my first post is going to be a bit lengthy!

Welcome to the forum Pete.
The A4 avants are very nice, good choice.

Agreed, the R***r TDi is a good one (developed between BL & Perkins from the 'O'-series block AFAIK) - although not common rail, the electronic pump/control is brill and mpg & performance excellent (mainly as the car is quite light but 2-litre - good power/weight)) - it does surprise a few at the lights.
But I really would like an A4 Avant TDi as we are going to get a caravan (the present car pulled a 1000kg camper great but the towing limit is just that - 1000kg, only a few 'vans under that and not enough luxury for the OH)
Just LURV the A4 looks....sex on wheels

Further to my meanderings, and following my recent posts elsewhere on here, we have settled on A4 Avant B7 as our choice for later this year. Having researched agonisingly, it seems that the one to go for would be an S-line, to get the best spec? Although we see that many of the others have obviously been ordered with some nice options. Not particularly bothered by xenons (although my Evo-owning son raves about them) but would like something with an interior a bit better looking than the Passat saloon we looked at a few weeks ago (sorry Passat owners - I do like 'em but this one was awful, but I have seen some nice beige leather interiors on some)
I still need to find out which of the 140bhp models have DPF; I have noticed variations of tax bands given in the Autotrader ads, presumably this is due to some being bought with DPF option? I see under my DPF thread a pic of an A4 170 with one fitted - is this also the position for them on the A4 140?
We like the black ones but realise it is a hard colour to keep looking nice; I like the Mauritius Blue and these seem to come up frequently with nice contrasting beige interiors. Again, I suppose it depends on what was ordered by the original owner. I did post a request for link(s) to brochures as I am not sure what combinations were available.
Questions questions - sorry, TIA for your help.
