I sort of asked this question elsewhere, but this is probably the better place to ask it.
I have an 02 TDi 130 SE with the tiptronic gearbox. The handbook says it's adaptive depending on throttle position and driving style. But I think it's poorly adapting to pootling along:Blush:
I commute daily in london, about 7 miles, mainly on traffic'ed single lane roads and backstreets. Realistically the best I can hope for is light traffic along a straight bit of road and then I can achieve the dizzying heights of 30mph! At 30mph it will not change up above 3rd gear... and will be doing about 1600rpm. I cannot use the Tiptronic to move it into 4th, only to drop down the gears.
It's a bit of a waste really as 1600rpm is probably 500/600 rpm more than is needed to still pull?
Yes I've got instant acceleration when I need it..... but I don't need it that instant when trundling. So my question is, can the gearbox ECU be remapped to change the gentle driving part of the regime?
On small throttle openings, say less than 33%.... it would be better perhaps if it used 1200/1300rpm as a change up figure surely?
Any thoughts? Anyone had their Gearbox ECU remapped for any reason?
Alex.
