I am having terrible trouble with DTC codes logging into my X Reg Year 2000 Polo S Estate fitted with the 1600cc AKL engine , all to do with the Immobiliser . I have had it at the dealers who replaced the ECU , key pick up coil , had both keys reprogrammed , and still get the codes which are below . I have heard on my car with the early immobiliser you can send the ECU away with prove of ownership and get the immobiliser part erased out of the ECU . Does any one know if this is correct . If this is possible i would do this and fit an after market immobiliser . Even when i have the error codes in my system 99% of the time the car starts and it is running fine . But i am disabled and cannot be let down by it not starting , the codes that log in are below . All i get from VW is replace every thing , by the time its sorted it will have cost me the price of the car . Tony

sounds like poor connections
remove plugs from ecu and seperate connectors try to pinch connectors tighter in blocks and refit

Hi I have done that today unplugged the ECM plus any thing to do with the immobiliser system , I have even bought a special spray for electronics & electrics that is supposed to make connections 20% better plus before i used that I sprayed every thing with contact cleaner pushed all the connections back together . Plus I have taken the immobiliser out and done the same with that cleaned with contact cleaner and the other spray . I must have stopped and started the car at least 12 times with no errors logged . I then took the car for a long drive so i could get a test report on my scanner came back put scanner on no Errors logged . I then left it for a few minutes came back started and stopped the car and guess what Bang same errors codes back in the system . Unreal

Immobiliser Section - 01176 Key Signal To Low
I am now at a loss as what to do and so are VW because they cannot find any fault on thier scanner they just tell me to replace things , I have replaced the ECM , Key pick up coil , had both Keys Re-Programmed , Cleaned contacts in both ECM & the Immobiliser . What I cannot understand is 99% of the time the engine is starting first time even with the fault codes logged in the ECM , plus why can I stop the car have no errors in it , then next time i come back and start it the Errors are back !!!!!!! . Any one any more suggestions please Help

try erasing learnt values in immobilizer with your diag machine

When you say ECU i take it you mean the engine control unit, but have you given any thought to the Immobilizer control unit J362

Many thanks for the replies , i and VW have erased all the errors every time they appear , but as stated they still come back .
On the Immobiliser side i have been intouch with VW as this is now the only part that has not been replaced and because my car has an immobiliser one fitted I can buy a exchange one for around £100 . I expect this is the next step as VW have already said to see if replacing it sorts the fault out even though there are no blocks coming up on thier diagnostics machine saying there is any thing wrong with it . I am lucky because on newer models the immobiliser is built into all the instruments .
All I am bothered about is all i seem to be doing is spending money and getting no where . If another £100 sorts the problem out OK BUT if it doesn't , then its another £50 for dealer diagnostic and still no closer to sorting problem out . I know i called it a ECU but i think they can be called ECM Electronic Control Module as well . Cheers Tony

VW POLO S Estate Year 2000 with AKL 1600cc Petrol Engine
I have put a new immobiliser on now and still getting the same error codes . I am at a loss now as what to do , VW have come up with get the keys re-programmed again as they lose thier effectiveness over time , or if they have become corrupted !!!!!. Does any one know if this is true
So in a nut shell
Items Replaced ECU , Key Pick up coil , Immobiliser , all ECU and other connections checked and cleaned , All Audio equipment removed as VW said could interfere with signal .
Still getting the same DTC codes below yet car is starting 99% of the time
Engine Section - 17978 - Static - Engine blocked by immobiliser with some times added No Indication on Display
Immobiliser Section - 01176- Key Static signal to small
Any advice greatly appreciated . Tony

Well there is only one thing left and that is a new key:confused:

Hi kenney, the only thing with that is i already have two genuine VW keys and it is doing just the same with either of them . This is why i am sceptical of what VW is saying about them going faulty one yes two  , if it was doing it with just one of the keys i would agree 100% that it could be a faulty Key transponder. But for it to do exactly the same with both keys i think is a bit to much of a coincidence . I will take the car and get VW to synchronize the ECU , Immobiliser , and the keys all together then take it from there it is the only thing i can think of what to do now . This car is costing me the Earth in the 3 weeks i have owned it and the car has F/S/H only done 60000 miles had over 2 grand spent by previous owner and its cost me nearly as much as i paid for it , and i am still no nearer the solution so much for VW reliability and service . Many thanks for replying . Tony :1zhelp:

I know one thing and that is synchronizing the keys to the ECU,will not rectify the problem.Store the keys apart from each other, and when the problem occurs again, use the other key,to see what happens

Exactly the same thing happens with what ever key you use , i get the same faults logged . The keys are not stored any where near each other infact one is still in the owners hand book wallet . Tony

So it is a Polo Classic with an AKL engine then? This is actually a Seat Cordoba really. I have put this just to help a little. Is the new immobiliser box still giving the code “01176 Key Signal too low”? If it is, the problem must be with the reader coil, key or immobiliser box. The reader coil plugs directly into the immobiliser box.

Cheers for the info , and yes I am still getting the same codes in the Engine & Immobiliser section's of the scanner
Engine Section - 17978 - Static - Engine blocked by immobiliser with some times added info ( No Indication on Display )
In the Immobiliser Section
Immobiliser Section - 01176- Key Static signal to small . some times it comes up as a Sporodic error which means not a full blown DTC but a Pending one
I have already replaced both the coil Pick up & the Immobiliser with brand new VW ones and I am still getting the same codes logged . but the car starts 99% of the time just now and then i have trouble starting . Plus its had a New ECU , and Temperature sensor fitted . Plus all earths wiring and connections been checked . Also it is doing it with Both Keys . Tony

You have done all you can apart from having a new key made up and programed in.
