i have 1998 passat engine code AEB that saddly went bang :(
i have got a new engine that is now fitted to the car engine code AJL but now in the car it will not start it has no spark i have checked the sensors that i can see and they are the same part numbers as the ones on my AEB engine can any one help please

can you pick up diagnosis?
it could be speed sensor or anything diag test to see if any faults come up

The AEB and AJL engines are identical in their base unit form, so identical that if you were to buy a new unit from VAG, they are the exact same part number, so that will not be an issue.
Have you at any point cranked the engine over with the coils off the plugs but still plugged into the harness?

yes i unpluged them to get the oil round the engine before i attempted to start it

So just to be clear, you removed the coils from the plugs but left them connected to the harness plugs whilst you cranked it over?

no i unplugged the the coil packs from the harnes and left them on the engine and turned it over

OK, so that theory out of the window although I have a suspicion that doing that may upset the ignition amplifier, I always unplug the amp.

i did turn the engine over withe coil packs still on the harness and not on the plugs on the other engine

i did do this on the old engine and it did stop running before it was removed and the new engine in

I think you have a dead ignition amp, what is your email? Check fuse 32.
