My turbo is knackered, its from a 1997 passat TDI Sport 110 si i am looking for a replacement.
There are loads on eBay but the codes are confusing me!

the codes on mine are

VNT15 454158-31 s/n AF 304583 028145702C

so have found a few VNT15 from vw's or audis but the other codes don't match exactly, does that matter? which codes should i be looking for.

i would appreciate peoples help

thanks

The VW part number is the 028 145 702C part which is a Garrett turbo. I doubt the final letter matters so any one with that part number should do.

028 145 702 C is only fitted to AFN engines 10/96 to 8/99, after that it is 028 145 702 H.

Hi Crasher. Have you any idea what the last letter means. I've noticed that VW often change the last letter on parts or add another letter and yet when you compare them they look the same.

It means that they are different in some way. This can mean that the part is upgraded and still interchangeable with others of virtually the same number or a number completely different or it can be a completely different part, the only way to tell is to put the number you want into ETKA and see if it is compatible and in 90% of cases, ETKA will help but not always. I never assume anything with part numbers, I always check.

I just wondered because the B5 and B6 diesels look like they use the same oil filter on PD engines and yet VW use two different part numbers or am I just wrong.

Which engine codes?

B5 diesels AVB, AVF, AWX, BGW, BHW all use oil filter 074 115 562
B6 diesels BKC, BXE, BLS, BVE, BWV, BMA, BKP, BMP, BUZ, BMR all use 071 115 562C
So what is the difference. What does the "C" mean? That was my question.

Any GT15/VNT15 from a similar aged Passat/A4/A6 longitudinal 110 engine will bolt straight on (make sure it is same make Garrett or KKK).

You can also fit the later 110 GT1749V which is very minutely better, but you will need to mate up the compressor outlet (later 110's have a different connector to the sleeve fit gt15) and you may have to lengthen an oil line, all small low cost stuff.

Hi

i have found one on Ebay from crashed passat, so its not a recon but was working when removed, only cost £100!! there are plenty on there, the search terms a used where;
tdi turbo; passat turbo; garrett; then trued the codes as well. these searches bring up different results.

good luck
