Hi, i went through a deep puddle the other month and afterwards none of my dials are working properly, the speedo doesn't work at all, the fuel gauge works but when moving or going around corners it drops about 1/4 of a tank and the oil temp works sometimes and suddenly stops working, i have taken it to a garage and they have checked the connections but nothing was wrong, they say that the combi unit ( the bit where the dials are) might need replacing, but dontknow if this will solve the problem, will this solve the problem or is it something else,

Thanks All

I'm surprised that going through a puddle could have wrecked your instrument cluster but if that's the diagnosis then that's the next step.

I can code a second hand cluster in for you which will save you selling both your kidneys to pay the dealer for fitting a new one.

i have been through 3 deep puddles now the first two times the speedo stopped working but it stared to work again, this time it wont work, its been about 4-5 months, i probaly should of learnt my lesson with the first two puddles!!

Sorry but what do you mean by code a second hand cluster? (i'm a noob!!)

I mean if it is your instrument cluster that has failed, I can install a second hand instrument cluster for you, where a dealer will want to fit a new one at a cost of £600+.

Sorry, I must have missed your reply.

Unfortunately no, I need the car and all the keys to do the job.

hi all, sorry to keep going on!! i have had my cluster out and sent it to BBA reman who says that it is the cluster which is broken but can't fix it (which cost me £35! if yours is broken dont send it away they have stopped making the chips which go inside it) so defently need another one, was just wondering if a second hand one would work in my car after being coded in or do I have to get a new one? Also what happens about the mileage?

Thanks everyone!!

To quote my previous post above:

I also correct the mileage to what it should be.

Hope that helps.

I don't usually supply the cluster itself but can try to help you find one if you struggle.

Recoding and correcting the mileage is £60 on the 8L A3.

I don't know, you'll need to check the part number of your clocks against the ones for sale on ebay to ensure you get the correct ones.

Either get it scanned with VCDS or take the clocks out and have a look at the part number.

No no.. What you need to do is to remove your instrument cluster from your car. Have a look at the part number on the white label and write it down. Now look for some new clocks with that part number. Simple.
