Hi all
Anyone any thoughts on this problem, on heading home this evening, I had both front windows down due to the warm weather, I could hear this strange noise coming from the passenger side front wheel, I could only describe it as, something metal trailing along the ground, I stopped the car and checked around the front passenger wheel ,everything seemed fine and nothing was loose, so I continued on my journey, a mile or so along the road the noise came back, I was stuck in rush hour traffic so not able to stop, the noise seemed to get louder and louder, eventually I head a bang and lost all drive, and felt like something fell off and hit the underside of the car as I free wheeled along the road, turns out the Passenger side inner driveshaft had disintegrated, when I tried to drive just got a bang bang noise , was kind of worried to towed it, in case I did further damage, luckily my father in-law has large trailers at his workplace and drives a jeep, so we trailered it to my local VW dealer, and left it with security, luckily I took out VW extended warranty, so hopefully should have no issues, but god knows what they will hit me with tomorrow.
We had a look at the driveshaft and both out and inner gaiters are in place, so I can’t understand how this has occurred, you can see the inner driveshaft jump when trying to take up drive, I also can’t find any other posts with this problem, my car had a new clutch fitted aprox 6 months ago under warranty, they didn’t tighten bolts properly on they flywheel which resulted in a loud banging noise, but this was eventually resolved, I can’t but help thinking they must have disturbed something, anyone have any thoughts on how this could happen, they also had the car 2 weeks ago when I had cruise control fitted, I had asked them to check engine mountings due to a intermittent strange noise ( it was like a cracking noise) they reported all was fine.
My Passat is a 2006 2.0 TDI Sport, and has only covered 49k, with full service history

Anyone had the same problem

don't let them know that you kept driving despite the noise, just tell them it let go unexpectedley.

Complete new passenger driveshaft required, apar it seized, they says they have never heard of this problem before, and to be honest neither have I, anyhow its covered under the extended vw warranty, and should be back on the road tomorrow,

After a 400mile round trip on my new driveshaft, some 3 wks after fitted, I am now getting the same noise I got aprox 2months before the passenger driveshaft failed, this time the noise is apparent from the drivers side, its not like I neglect her, so why at almost 50k should both driveshaft’s fail.
Rebooked into my local dealer to be checked out 15/08 ??
anyone else had the same problem ??
