strange squeak on start up

hi, wonder if anyone could help.i have a 55plate a3 2.0tdi sportback. on starting the car a strange squeak occurs somwhere between starter & g/box. a mechanic friend told me he'd heared about this before & to have the car checked as it could be on a "recall". does anyone have any ideas? thanks for your time.

hi, i have a 2.0 turbo petrol engine and i also sometimes have a strange squeak when i start my car up i have only just bought it from audi so i dont think it can be that serious

sounds like you have the dreaded starter motor squeak common noise ...take it you hear it as you stop cranking the engine?

that's right. does that mean motor on it's way out?
