Hi,
A mates A3 1.8T quattro has an intermittent hesitation when cruising at about 40 mph (I assume in top gear). It apparently feels as if he were slightly releasing the throttle for a split second.
From what I've read so far and my own experience, this sounds like a MAF sensor related problem but is it more likely to be the MAF sensor connection or the sensor itself that's at fault? Or does anybody suspect something completely different?

Brooky.

I had that problem with my old golf gti
everyday driving home id get to about 60 mph and get a little jolt and hestation then get to about 65 - 70 the car would pick up again after changing everything and i mean everthing over the case of a year i finally got to the bottom of the problem and all it cost me was a can of electrical spray.
Because the car had done over 100 thousand miles the mass air flow meter was cloged up with crap ect so all i did was undo the two torxs screws that held the meter on dissconected it removed the rubber sealing ring and sprayed it with electrical spay witch removed all the carbon build up on the fine wire in the sensor, made sure the sensor was completly dry before replacing the rubber seal and then replaced the meter after that the car ran like a new one. give it a go its cheaper than bying a new meter and if it dont work its only cast you about £1.50.
Make shore you use electrical spray because WD40 will corrode the seal.

Cheers Spud,

I had a feeling it was something along those lines. I'll check it out and let you know the result. Electrical spray, right, will do.
