OK, so my local independent is currently checking out my aircon issues (ie. I don't have any aircon...)
He says that there is a voltage feed to the compressor.. will this be to the clutch, rather than the compressor itself?
Does the compressor have any electrical components, or is it "just" a compressor, fed via a electro-magnetic clutch unit?
Also, if the Pressure switch is playing up, would there still be a voltage feed to the compressor (I don't know the circuit, so I don't know at in which area teh voltage is switched...)
Many thanks

the voltage feed is for the magnetic clutch
the pressure switch is designed to switch the compressor off if pressures are too high or low

You can bridge the pressure sensor terminals to bring on the fans and engage the magnetic clutch. Or you can feed 12v to the magnetic clutch to see if it engages. On some compressors you can fit a new clutch if it fails.

Right, a quick update:
I miss-heard on the phone yesterday... they say that there is NO feed to the compressor.
They also did a full diagnostic scan, and their system did not record any faults with the A/C system.
(They said this quite suprised them, because they often would get a pressure sensor fault in this type of situation.)
So... where too now? (I got the impression that the guys that did my car yesterday are great with servicing/tuning, but don't really want to put too much effort into the A/C systems...)
Thanks for any suggestions

No one wants to put effort into chasing faults it's not cost effective. If I spent 8 hours finding a damaged section of wire and charged you £5 parts and £400 labour you would have a fit. Try bridging the pressure sensor terminals to see what comes on.

Can I get to the pressure sensor without dismantling half the car?
