Rear Speakers not working

Hey im new to this site and require helpi have the 1.9 tdi s Passat and as far as i know it has rear speaker ( Im not really up on cars).

I gave my friend a lift the other night and he pointed out that they where not working and that i should have a setting on the main radio to fix this....... is this true?? Ive looked for it and as of now i cannot find anything to adjust the volume unless im doing it wrong?

If this is not the case could it be the result of a lose wire and should i take it back to VW as it is still under its warrenty untill september.... Hope you can help me Thankyou :D

I believe the does not have rear speakers as standard.

As Cylon say's. The S model doesn't have rear speakers or the wiring to fit them.

you both 100% sure about that as it say it has 8 speakers on the website... 4 front and four rear??

Mine is a 2006 S spec and it doesn't have them. Maybe the newer model years have it????

What year is it as the "S" tended to NOT have rear speakers.

If it does, you should be able to balance the sound to the rear from the stereo - if you can't or it doesn't work, you've not got them.

You'd be looking for the fader control on the radio to set the balance from front to rear.

I remember reading a long term review of the Passat S, and it was one of their main criticisms that it had no rear speakers, which was a bit tight on a car like this, even though it is base spec

Not a great spec lol don't say that it makes me feel like i bought a rubbish car..... :aargh4:wish i would have done my homework a bit more now!!! Although i must admit i don't really like the chrome :(

Well thatnkyou all for your replys at least that is all clear now:approve:..........Is there anyway i could get some installed in the back??????? If so how much money would i be expecting to pay???

The car's nice - it's the spec that's not great IMHO.... I don't think you get an armrest either :)

It IS doable - just not easily - I'm sure there's someone here that's done it....

Oh well at least i didnt pay to much for it :approve: Yup it doesn't have one..... the people in the back get one..... lol probably to make up for the lack of speakers but people in the front dont :(

Doubt id be installing the speakers myself far to much to go wrong there, so will probably take it somewhere.... what would be thee best speakers to get put in it etc??? ..... and where to take it???

Get yourself to an ICE specialist - they'll be able to help you - just don't go to somewhere like Halfords. Get a written quote from them if you can and see if it's any cheaper to buy the bits yourself and get them to fit it.

It shouldn't be too complicated (!) but it might cost you a bit.

Retrofitting an central armrest is something that has been covered here before though....

Or go to Halfords and ask if they know of an ICE specialist that can do Double DIN stereos (I'm pretty sure Halfords don't) - that way you'll be directed to somewhere that knows what they're talking about....

Yes i know your does as my friend has the same model, i was sooo impressed on getting a lift in it one day which is why i decided to buy a passat...... although i opted for the newer model as all the older ones had done loads of miles...... anyway thanks for the link will check it out

The earlier S models don't have back speakers but new (this year pretty much) passat S models have back speakers in. A good sign is usually if you have the rcd310 head unit. If you have the old rcd 300 unit then chances are you don't have back speakers. Such a silly decision from VW....
