I am wanting to programme a 2nd hand key fob that I bought off ebay. I've had a new blade cut and synchronised the fob with the central locking by using the lock door method with the original key in the ignition. I've been reading up about programming the key for the immobiliser by using VAG COM.
However, apparently I need the SKC code to be able to do this? Is this true? I do not have this code. Does this mean I will have to take it to a VW dealer to do the job? :(
THanks in advance for any advice.
Send a PM to shark_90, he has the ability to get your SKC.....

Hi
You do need the SKC to program it to the immobiliser. Where are you located? If you're close by you can pop around or if you are a long way away you could post me your ECU and I could retrieve it from that.
Cheers

The SKC from the ECU? Do you mean the PIN code?

SKC code is 7 digit, pin 5 digit-different things...

Only if you're being really picky.. Both acheive the same goal?

I just don’t want people getting the wrong impression, in that it is easy to obtain the SKC which can be entered using VAG-COM.

I'm confused.. with the correct tools is it easy to obtain the SKC (4 digit SKC) which is entered with VAG-COM/VCDS. The SKC that is used to adapt new keys, instrument clusters and ECUs.
4 digit SKCs are entered into VCDS as a 5 digit code (0xxxx) whereas the 7 digit SKC from a dealer needs to be entered with the date it was generated, the dealer's WorkShop Code (WSC) and Importer Number. Both do the same thing and the 7 digit SKC can be converted to a 4 digit SKC for ease of use.

Don't think Ben (shark90) has used this forum in quite a while.
You could try calling him, his Company is Shark Performance in Mansfield.

If you buy a tool to read the code from your ecu off a well known auction site you can easily make your car into a giant paperweight if you don't know what you're doing.

Had a go with 3.01 Vag Tacho, but no joy at first attempt to find the PIN on my 2004 audi avant 1.9tdi.
When I tried to connect via VDO New, it appeared to connect but gave the following comms.....
Connecting VDO New...
OK
8E0920950M KOMBI+WEGFAHRS. RB4 D42
Check for VDO tacho...
Wrong Tacho Selected !!! Disconnect and Select another Type!
The options for reading the PIN and the EEPROM were greyed out with thi ECU.
The only ECU that appeared to offer hopw was:Connecting Audi A4/A6/A8 VW Immo Box(Megamos/Kostal) ..Now read PIN and EEPROM were selectable but did not result in getting the SKC (see below).
OK

You can't be posting on here that you use dodgy leads and pirated software. I suspect few members of this site would assist you. Please be aware that those cheap cables can make your cluster/ecu/car unfixable

Point taken. I'm just trying to get a second key for a very old audi a4. Have the blade and RF, but need 2nd transponder. I would like to do this for a sensible price. I understand the SKC is there to protect theft- however I have the vehicle documentation and would very much like to use a legitamate route to find the SKC for my own vehicle. Dealer tells me they will not give me the SKC regardles of the documentation I provide. Currenty the only options available to me is to spend more than 10% of the vicle to complete the spare key. So any help appreciated. Thanks

You could ask Zollaf if there's a local locksmith he uses, if he recommends one I'd use that locksmith.

It is like me at work berating people for illegally downloading movies and music, they just don't get it that it is theft, they say "but I downloaded it from someone who paid for it so I am just copying it".

Crasher people like us are regarded as relics from a bygone age. eBay, Amazon, Gumtree etc sells everything legal or otherwise. How many people actually know that radio stations pay royalties every time they play a record? Do they care? I doubt it. People have no respect for intellectual property as if it's free because the person that created it, didn't have to pay for their creative abilities.

Hi. Thanks for the advice. I did not intend to purchase an illegal tool- the add indicates its from UK and that its from Argos- see below!). Very confusing.
I live in south wales so we are very remote -if anyone can recommend a locksmith near Pembroke Dock I would be grateful.
Altenatively, please can anyone suggest a legal tool, less that 100GBP that will get the SKC for my own, fully documented Audi A4 Avant 1.9tdi 2004 model. (or maybe even rental of one?) Thank you.27385

I posted a link to a mobile locksmih in Pembrokeshire did you look at it? Just because that item is from a UK seller and collectable from Argos only means the seller is in the UK The genuine article costs a few hundred.

2 years ago i bought a b6 s4 which only had one key, i had a £80 supervag tool to read pin/SKC and proceeded to read the dash eeprom, I have promptly bricked the dash cluster !It then took me nearly 3 months to find a good 2nd hand instrument cluster (color DIS type) and bought the £250 version of the same tool which had better firmware and it was known to work with newer cars. Used that and retrieved all codes- including the old pin which you need in order to make the ECU accept the new instrument cluster and copy the VIN numbers from one to the other. To this day i still have one key and i did not modify the dash mileage- it doesn't bother me much as i still drive the car but i have it at the back of my mind that i will have to adjust the odometer one day ! Funny thing is that i can try to recover the old dash, it might work or might not...
As i mentioned above, one need to break things in order to fix, i had an instance when professional tuner tried to flash a 2005 allroad for a forum member and the ECU got bricked and he could not recover with 5k worth of tools. The owner came all the way from Cornwall with the ECU and i have recovered the ECU on a cheap MPPS clone on a 2004 audi a4 tdi. It took a few tries but worked in the end ! The owner was desperate as he was leaving for his wedding honeymoon/holiday the following night and thought it's a good idea to have the car mapped before the 5000 miles trip. As i said, had similar issues happened to me hence knowing how to recover the ECU with cheap tools- it's all experience- some still leave bad taste in your mouth !

Hi Doctle Odd. I called the locksmith you advised, but he wouldn't help (was not happy I'd had a go first). Still only got one key!

Locksmiths are like women, some will put out some won't, luckily there's plenty of both around

We have a locksmith in Nottingham who has a reputation of being one of the rudest most obnoxious people you could ever meet. I have only been in there once to get a Golf 2 16v factory sheathed key I had bought from Germany, cut to a specific number and the guy was unreal!

Did you get that Bug covered in the end?
zollaf
03-04-2015, 01:30 PM
no, as far as i am concerned its a hood for a 1303 so won't fit a 1302, but this bloke was no help wahtsoever, so the owner is sticking it on a trailer and taking it to surrey for them to sort it. they made it, its the wrong shape at the front, so they can fix it. its literally 2'' short in the sides but the top seems fine, so it would fit the curves of a 1303, maybe.

nooo, i told him to go to bas, but nooo, he went to the carhood whorehouse in surrey instead. not cheap, but the bloke i spoke to did tell me i would need to get a sewing machine to make it fit. but he does have 30 years experience and has 5 beetles in having new hoods, and a singer.

You've probably already found out by now but you wont get the SKC using that junk!!
If your lucky, you may not brick your car with it though.
The only real way of getting a second key is getting a lock smith to do it,
been there, got the t-shirt!!
