Hi, I have just purchased a 2006/06 passat 2.0tdi 140 sport (BKP engine) with 66k miles, I was wondering if anyone could confirm if this is a fault or it is normal, I have a faint whilsling noise coming from under the bonnet once the engines is swicthed off, it last for about 8-12 sec's then two simultanious "sounds like clunk/clunk" are apparent although not loud when the bonnet is closed, however when i open the bonnet and removed the engine cover the noise seems to be coming from the fuel system ie; the whistling from the front of the engine and the two clunk's from the right and then the left flitch panel.
Has anyone ever had the same problem or its it completly normal http://www.cars-guide.com/volkswagen-forum/images/smiles/icon_question.gif
Any replies would be much appreciated

Put the A/C to ECON for a moment or two and then try it, the noise should go away. If so, this is perfectly normal and not a fault, just A/C pressure passing through the restrictor.

Is it a whistling or a sort of electrical whine? I get an electrical whine that I think is the 'handbrake' coming on.
I've also got a low moan that plays for a couple of seconds when I turn the engine off that does not appear to be related to the air-con (it happens if I use the air-con or not)

Mine's done this from new, and I generally only notice it when I park in my garage, not in an open space where other background noise blank it out. As mine's now done 134k without a problem, I've always taken it as being completely normal.
Maybe it's unique to the Sport model, something to do with climate, or maybe coming home lights as they always turn on when I enter the garage etc.

It is probably the coolant run-on pump which pumps the water round for a short while to eliminate hot spots. I had to replace it on my Alhambra Diesel.

I have a 140 SE and noticed this the other day, sounds like an electronic 'buzzing' more than a whistling. It dosnt always do it, I dont have A/C as far as Im aware, and I always have the "Econ" button pressed lol

We sort have AC..you have to turn the temp dial to 18 and put the blower on the 3rd setting then you get a blast of cold air after a lil while..shame we dont just have a button.
Ive asked about the noise and yes it is normal..however i get a splodging noise after so dont think dats normal lol

The splodging noise is the plunger returning to position, don't worry it's normal.

ah right. Wondered why it had AC info under the bonnet. Stll havent had the car on the ramps to see whats what. Did notice the car had drunk a bit of oil, i check once every couple of weeks, and It set the "check oil level" warning off last night as I was parked on a hill lol

Alhambra TDi (AUY 7m2)
This appears on mine to have been the run-on water pump. Since I had the head gasket done it almost never needs to operate.
