Encouraged by 'kite's' comprehensive reply to a Sat Nav querie recently, I have been tempted to pose the following question....
I have a factory fitted Sat Nav in a '08 A3 Sportback which works fine but when I press the disc eject button.........it doesn't! Does this mean that there is no disc in there and that all the info is in a memory? Or that the disc eject mechanism doesn't work? Or what? I will need to know, if I ever want to update the disc.
I queried it when I took it for an Audi sevice recently and the car came back just the same ..... except all my settings had been changed. Really helpful!

A3 does not have Hard Drive SAT NAV yet. So should be CD or DVD Rom.

I think the Eject button maybe stuck

I've heard sometimes Audi locks nav disks in the sat nav but can be released with Vag com, not sure how true this is though...

Sounds like the nav is in "transport" mode, they do this to stop disc's getting pinched.
Can be unlocked by dealer or vagcom.
From ross tech wiki

Channel 067: CD/DVD Drive
000 - Normal/Eject-Button enabled
001 = Eject CD/DVD (will not be saved)
255 = Eject-Button disabled/locked (Anti-Theft-Protection)

Just tell your dealer to unlock it for you.

Thanks for the information. I didn't realise the disc could be locked in for security. I'll leave it alone then.
