View Full Version : Central locking
Got a 1998 passat tdi and the central locking works when u unlock the doors but when i lock the doors only the drivers door locks and the rest stay open. If i lock the doors from the boot or the passanger door the system works fine. Are there two switches on the door locking mec? 1 to open the other to close? any ideas how to fix this very annoying problem. thxs

The central locking is built into the drivers door lock so you probably have to replace the lot. You could try taking it off and having a play if you like fiddling with things. I don't think any parts diagrams exist so you will be working blind and I don't think you can buy spare parts for the lock.
What about taking the locking mec from the passengers side and swaping it with the drivers side. Is that possible?

They are 2 different units. There are no spare parts available for the locks, but there are people that have managed to repair the lock
Thanks alot for the link kenney, think i will get the soldering iron out and give it a go dosnt look to hard to do. Bloody vw and there dry or crap solders. Had problems with a polo gt that had dry solders, took me ages to find that problem but with the valuable info u just gave me shouldnt take 2 long to resolve this issue:beerchug: Got 2 say really good forum and very very helpful members :biglaugh:

It might save you a lot of trouble getting a second hand lock from the breakers,
Not so sure about that. still have to strip the door apart on my car and a secound car. then put the secound hand system in to find out it dosnt work. Kennys link is spot on. Going to tackle it this weekend.
